Questions/needs for 1944 China scenarios... - BlitzPig_EL - 30.11.2008
Ok, I am currently trying to make a DF map/mission with the last major Japanese land offensive "Ichi Go" as the backdrop.
Much of the action took place in the Hankow area. As we have no map (hint hint) of this area I am currently using the Bessarabia map.
Of greater importance is the lack of two or three critical aircraft. I have some trouble navigating the site as many things seem to be in areas for other stuff, so if I am covering old ground I apologize. Anyway, In late 1944 the US 14th Air Force in China and the CACW (China Air Combat Wing) mostly comprised P40N aircraft, which was the fastest production version, and some P51A (Allison powered) aircraft. The IJAAF also had on strength 1 or 2 Sentai of Ki44 Shoki.
I have heard that a P51A (Or A36 "Apache") is being made for the sim, is this true?
Also is anyone considering the P40N and Shoki? These two aircraft are really glaring omissions from any Pacific/Asia theater scenario.
Thanks in advance gents.

The A-36 is slowly getting there, I have recently had to invest more time in RL; and now thats over I'm focusing on completing the Whirlwind by Xmas. Unfortunately the model I recieved from Hart requires some considerable re-working to pull it up to the current standard that we're setting here. So although work is progressing its slow, but happening.
(The link is inoperative)
As for the Ki-44;

Not nearly as slow as the development of SOW or Rise of Flight.
And those people are getting
paid to develop their projects.
I"ll bank on these mods being done
long before either of those sims are released.

Thanks for the info Magpie.
The A36 will make an excellent stand in for the P51A, as their performance is virtually identical.
I have no clue how new FMs are done for the new aircraft, but if the A36/P51A's performance in game is accurate there will be some fairly stunned Spit/109 fliers out there. Especially at the altitudes that most onliners fly at...
The RAF's Mustang Is were the fastest low level aircraft in Europe for some time.

Blitzpig, do you think that the Manchuria map makes for an accurate representation of the Chinese landscape, or does Bessarabia work better? I've been slowly working on 23rd FG campaign using the P-51B.

Honestly I don't think either of them are correct for the area of China we need, at least in terms of topography. I choose Bessarabia because the coast line is very similar to the area in question, and it has air bases is roughly the right places.
Of course the buildings, vegetation, airfield types, etc... are probably all wrong, but what alternative do we have?
I doubt the area around Hankow looks like that.

Worth a look.

All the early map work here at AAA was done by simply changing textures for the default ones
Try putting my Thailand map load.ini in the manchuria map folder and seeing how it looks...or with the Bessarabia one...and rename them to your own delight
