[Beta] He-219 - Checkyersix - 11.12.2008

Hey all,

This is my long overdue frankenplane, the He-219, presented here as an overlay for the Do-335V-13. It will have the same flight and weapons models as the Do-335, although it uses the He-162 cockpit.

This is very, very Beta, and it has a lot of blemishes. The paintjob is strictly temporary, and I've included a void file for ambitious skinners (please share).

I've also included something I've been using for a while myself that should appeal to the night fighter pilots among us...turret radar!



I placed a tiny, non-functional turret outside the cockpit. It reacts to enemy planes within 3.5 km. Since night-fighters like the He-219 had a separate crewman to relay radar bearings to the pilot, I like to think of this as your radar operator telling you where to go.



I've made dozens of interceptions at night without the map or icons. It's very good against bombers, but, just like real radar of the period, very difficult to use against fighters.



I made this interception just by following the turret, and nearly ran into the mosquito before I saw it. I think it really brings out the feeling of relying on indirect equipment to find a target at night.

For those who don't like my crazy idea, I've included another hier.him file in the directory that deletes it. I would recommend giving it a go at least once, though

Right now this is just an overlay mod. In the future it will need a new weapons model, flight model, and damage model, and of course its own slot. It would be great if someone could help me make a new slot and weapons model for it in the near future.

EDIT: This is not a new slot plane. Just unzip it in your MODS folder. It will replace the Do-335V-13. Delete the folder to restore your original model.
