Aircraft as vehicles for taxiing. - Checkyersix - 16.12.2008

Hey all,

Not sure if anyone has suggested this, but I thought it might be interesting if we could add aircraft models as vehicles, so we could have them taxi around airfields. Of course they couldn't take off, but it might be a good idea to add to immersion.

Ohh, great idea!

- Zorin - 16.12.2008

We have talked about this some time ago in the AAA top ranks and found that it is basically possible, but problematic because of the missing animation for turning props.

- canonuk - 16.12.2008

Would it be that big a deal if the props didn't move? Seeing taxing aircraft would be excellent, and you'd hardly notice the stationary props if you were flying over.

- Phil_K - 16.12.2008

Could you replace the props with a transparent (-ish) disk? If you speculate it, it might give the impression of movement as it reflects the light

- Boosher - 16.12.2008

If it's that big of a problem, then why don't we take one of the existing trucks for each side and have it as a "tow" vehicle? It would be a convoy made of those two things, the plane and the truck.

- Phil_K - 16.12.2008

Or just remove the propblades?

- F4U-1_Corsair - 16.12.2008

I have seen on someone's sig a truck with moving wheels, I speculate then, that it is possible to have an animated prop.

Probably the best idea Phil_K

Sure, animated props would be nice but un-necessary IMO for this sort of thing.

I'm sure buzzing an airfield at a few hundred miles per hour we wouldn't notice if the props on these objects were animated or not Smile

I remember that some people did this for CFS2. They made trucks and cars you could drive around in the sceneries. Lots of fun if it's possible. Perhaps a jet engine would get rid of the propeller problem, however it might sound a bit odd.

- creamy - 16.12.2008

thats a pretty intresting idea a plane car lol that could be an intresting way to make intro tracks to missions like for example being driven to your bomber or a much more ground view of a ground battle as a prolog to a ground attack mission

- canonuk - 17.12.2008

I think the focus of this mod would be airfield decoration and immersion, not a new vehicle to drive around in. It's about turning a stationary aircraft into a moving object, not making trucks and cars driveable.

You can already taxi in your own plane.

Yes that's what I had in mind.

Or add a translucent disc? Someone is bound to want more detail.

- fly_zo - 17.12.2008

... silly question , but if propeller is essential how all the jets works ?
