Lag with new maps? - SkyMaster - 22.12.2008

Hi

I seem to get lag from some of the maps. While in mission builder my pointer takes about 5 seconds before it moves after I move my mouse.Trying to place objects is futile.Flying over them I am down to an average 12 to 16 FPS.I usually can fly 60 FPS,whether a huge mission, online or whatever.

I have three installs of IL2,one "out of 46 box with the 4.09 upgrade for backup.
One on C:/Drive the same out of 46 box 4.09 added.

These both run excellent at 60 fps doing anything nomatter how big the battle,
The "Black Death Track" everyone uses to benchmark I get 60 fps whith no slow down or stuutering.

But with my Modded version,I find the New Maps give me considerable Lagg.

Is it my install or has anyone else came across this? Are the new maps to colourfull >?
I don't get it as I can fly FSX at 60 FPS as well.No stutters playing any other games at all?

Thanks for any info

- lowfighter - 22.12.2008

It must be a comfiguration thing. If you have an ATI card I can post my conf.ini here so that you test. if you have an NVidea one, than maybe someone else can post. I know the pointer lag in FMB, it happens when i load a very crowded mission (maybe 20000 + ground objects in the mission). However never encountered this when opening a fresh map....

- SkyMaster - 22.12.2008

Thank you for the reply Lowfighter

I have NVideo, yes if someone could post there config please or help me with mine,
I get this on fresh map trying to set one plane just to fly and check out map.
I couldn't build or run a mission on them if I tried.

Even in the QMB Plus I only get 12 tp 13 FPS flying over the new maps.
maybe I should try a fresh re-install?
could it be a mod of some sort causeing something?
I have a lot Modded with in my game, all of it works really good, onlyprobs I had along the way was dealing andlearning to merge the .ini's ,then came WinMerge Smile which made that easy.

this is only thing I have that's a bit strange,
thanks for any help or advice

Try this

viewtopic.php?t=3127&highlight=advanced+tweaks+il2+stutter+fps+problems

And if you have a multicore PC you need to change this;(in your config. file in your root folder)
[rts]
;ProcessAffinityMask=1
To
[rts]
ProcessAffinityMask=2

Since IL2 was not designed to run on multicore processors.

Good Luck!

This old thread might help you to m8:

- Widowmaker - 22.12.2008

1. about the multicore..
there seems to be some confusion there..as I once thought it was not designed for it either..
though changing affinity mask to 3 to use both cores works just fine.
whether it actually utilizes them I dont know... but this was told to me by several others.
I havnt seen any real gains in performance but it does seem to load faster.

as to the lag..
which maps are you talking about? all of them?
and just how much ram do you have?

Anything under 2 GB is going to be a problem on a bunch of the new maps. THey are just too large.

On my old system, when I would open up the Slot map, I couldnt do anything.

with a few gigs of ram added, it changed everything around.

- Murph - 22.12.2008

I have a quad core. It could be my imagination, but setting ProcessAffinityMask to 2 and assigning Il2 to core 3 (assigning everything else to cores 0-2) using taskmanager seems to make for less stutters.

- SkyMaster - 22.12.2008

Thank you all forthe responses and links.

First off I don't really have the computer savy down very good,
although I can read good and install things accordingly I am very unknowlegeable when it comes to spec's and thing's.

I looked over the threads posted and made some changes ,the changes have picked my frame rates up from 12 to 13 to a staedy 40 FPS give or take a few over populated area's so to speak.

I need to explore a bit more but thought I should say thanks and let everone know It's a bit better now.Quite a bit better now actually thank you.

As for my spec's>

AMD Athlon 64 Processor
3200+
2.01 GHz,
4000 RAM
Raid stripped drives 150 Gb each drive.

I don't know what else really,NVideo
not sure what kind, still looking for it lol Confusedhock:
I can open the control panel ete, just can't find anything that actually tell's me what kind of NVideo as of yet.

Will post again after tonight when I can test a bit more with the Maps, but everythings running much much better now, thank you all again I have to returnto work as the Mess Hall is officially closing!

Big Grin

Hi SkyMaster,
If you click on the windows "Start" button in the bottom left corner, then go to "run" and in that box type "dxdiag" without the qoutes, then click ok. The diagnostics tool then runs off and gets all sorts of system info and displays it similar to this;

Alternatively from your control panel double click on the "system" icon and then select the "hardware" tab and then "device manager" and in the dialogue box click on the little + sign beside "Display Adapter", that will tell you what card you have.

Hope this helps

Cheers

Quelty

- SkyMaster - 23.12.2008

Thanks for that info Quelty

Thats just what I needed to find what I was looking for Big Grin
That helped a lot thank you.

This is my graphics card>
NVidia GeForce 6600 LE
256 MB

My games running better ,thanks to everyone and there links and info, I now get a steady 40 FPS.
I can live with that for now , I'm still reading all the info and thread links and will try and tweak
my configuration a bit more.

But for now 40 FPS is Sweet, even the FMB is smooth no matter what map I'm on.

Thanks again to all

Sky

P.S. > Anyone has anything on what I could do with my GeForce 6600 LE Card,
I'm all ears....er....uh...all eye's ....

if theres any more info, as always, it's much appreciated Big Grin

Thank you all very much and Merry Christmass

Not sure if you're registered here m8, but here's another, if the best place to continue:

Click

1st here's an old thread of mine over there as I had the same card a few year's back - a good link is within from Fly-Zo:

Click

Also post your DxDiag over there in the Community Forum as you see in in my old thread - Just do what Quelty posted and click the 'Save All Information' Button............and you should get a report on your Desktop. Just Copy/Paste it over and bingo m8 as they're the best guy's around for this kinda thing
