TrackIR Questions. - Junkers - 25.12.2008

I was thinking of buying trackIR but I am not entirely sure if it is worth the money. Firstly, does it cause any reduction in game performance because my pc is not exactly top of the line. Has 6DOF been perfected for IL2, if not it wouldn't be worth it. To those of you that own trackIR, was it worth it, could you fly just as well without it and does it really enhance the game. All replie appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Playn'/Flyin' IL2 without TrackIR is almost as sailing w/o wind, diving w/o mask and fins , fight w/o weapons and so on......Definately a MUST HAVE hardware for every flightsimmer PERIOD!

The TIR system uses very little system resources, so I expect you would see no more than, and likely less than, a 1 frame per second difference.

Il2 is more enjoyable and being able to lean around a bit to see around canopy and windscreen framing is far more realistic than being on a fixed swivel point. The 6DOF works just fine in Il2, movement is limited so that you cannot stick your head through the canopy or fuselage in an unrealistic manner.

Well worth the money and I refuse to play a sim without TIR.

Junkers,

If you are handy with your hands and tools you might want to investigate freetrack, You can build a system for less than 50 bucks for 2DOF and a shade more for 6DOF. With regards to your machine, whenever I am gaming I make it a practice of going to the services part in control panel and basically shutting everything down while I am playing with the sim. If all the services are set on automatic startup they will all return with a simple reboot. If you shut them down you might see a slight increase in fps. Hope this helps!

It is not worth not buying.

The price may seem steep, but it's not once you've discovered the joy that IL-2 becomes without the tedious use of a mouse/hatswitch to look around.

Enjoy!

TrackIR4 was the best buy i did in 2004, if you have food and home, worth buy be shure!

Thanks for the advice Congompasse, I will investigate freetrack but I think I will probably just dish out the cash for TrackIR4 (That is the newest one isn't it?). I don't think it will slow down the game much, I was more concerned that the head movement would not be fluid due to my PC's inferior processing ability. Anyways, I don't mind spending the money so long as it will improve gameplay, which I now know it will. Thanks everybody, your advice is fantastic.
