[MOD]Tracer Colors Mod - Jaypack44 - 01.01.2009
*-THIS DOES NOT CHANGE WM, ONLY THE COLORS OF THE TRACERS... so it's a perfectly legal mod...*
Hi all, I made this probably 6 months ago, I just thought I'd share this little mod to change the colors of the tracers in-game. It only changes the colors up-close, as shown in the screenshots. i think the faraway colors are coded into the weapons, and so can't be changed. However, it also changes the colors of the nav lights, but if you don't mind this, I think you'll like the mod.
Changes:
Red .30 and .50 cals to yellow:
Original:
New (arrows show distance effect):
Changed blue and green to less "laser-like" colors
Old:
New:

It also changes most of the other colors (purple, pink, cyan, etc. to just plain yellow.
If you don't want a certain color, all you have to do is delete or edit the relevant .tga file (it's pretty self-explanatory- red tracers= red.tga, etc.)
Installation: just extract and copy to your MODS folder

Nice, thank you Jaypack. The 4th of July colors were great in the beginning but I like just nuts and bolts any more...

The "real life" tracers had different colors (?)...right?

What are you saying? I meant that the saturation was too much for me.

I've fired some tracer round once, and they are red or yellow today
In the WWII, you had red, blue, green and yellow tracers, but for all calibers. So, a 30 cal could have all colours, if the groundcrew loaded a remain of different boxes ammo.
But I think its impossible to get random tracer-colours in-game.

Nice pack. with this in mind would it be possible to add smoke effects to the 30 and 50.cal tracers without changing or altering the damage model? Someone once told me it was easy if you knew how to do it...

i remember someone doing it before by changing the ejecting cartrige effect for a tracer that gave 30s and 50s tracers but i think AAA thought it was a weapon mod and deleted it

PLEASE!!! No discussion of .30 and .50 cal smoketrails... it has already been proven that to give them tracers would require editing the java class files, which leads to accusations of cheating and just a bad day all-around for everyone...

OK I see.
So the accusation of cheating comes from the fact that the weapon model is changed, so the guns are more powerful? I'm not trying to turn this thread sour, but I like to learn so I don't make mistakes in the future,

Yeah, basically if someone were to create such a mod, it would make it very easy to reverse-engineer the files and mod the weapons themselves.
And sorry for my slightly harsh tone earlier... I just don't want this thread to turn into another "you cheat"/"No I don't" thread.

U mean every nations used different colours?
I read a book where the German tracers were yellow and other books where the german tracers were red.
It's possible the yellow tracers were used in the est and red in the west?
In a book Willi Reschke says:"... the russians projectiles left red tracers, wile the ours are yellow..."

No problem, it's only right for you to defend your MOD and to put me in my place! We all have to know that weapon editing etc is against the rules, and so now I know what changing to smoke tracers can lead to. SO many threads have been locked or deleted that are to do with smoke tracers so now that we know, maybe now no-one will enquire further! (I hope...)

The Germans used tracers that changed colors during flight.
7.92mm Patrone S.m.K Leuchtspur
This was the standard tracer round weighing approx 23.5gms complete. The primer was colored red and the bullet tip colored black weighing approx 10.17gms including the trace compound and steel core weighing approx 2.53gms. Loaded with 2.88gms of Nitrozellulosegewehrpulver 'Nz.Gew.P.', developing a muzzle velocity of approx 830 m/sec and could penetrate 8mm of steel plate at a range of 100m when fired from a K98k. Several types of tracers were used during the war, most common being yellow. All green tracers were also used together with a twin colour trace. These changed from green to red or from red to green about 500m from the muzzle. To identify these cartridges, the labels were marked
