Music problem - NineToes - 03.01.2009
I've recently discovered the option to play music in-flight, so i made a test. I converted a .wma song to a .wav and placed it under IL-2 1946/samples/music/inflight, and as i ran a mission in the QMB, it played the song, but only only for 3 or 4 seconds- and started again from the beginning. And again and again.
What could have caused this?
Thanks for your help,
Ninetoes.

Maybe you recorded to the wrong type of wav file. There are many variations. When I first tried adding my own music, I recorded the wrong types and the game wouldn't even load!
Anyway, here are some settings for .wav files that I've been using with success:
sample rate 44.1kz
sample size 16bit
bitrate 192 kbps
and most important of all:
encoder settings: MPEG-Layer 3

Sometimes this works, but most times there's a few steps needed to get reliable files
From the IL2 readme:
4. The sound files must be in the 11025 Hz, Mono, 16-bit format. To be used in IL-2 1.2ov they must be converted into Windows RIFF wave files (*.wav). The file data format must be MPEG-1 Layer 3 @ 20 kbps 11025 Hz Mono

here's the easiest way to add your own music
you need to start with an mp3
do a search for CDEX on the web... it's free
open CDEX and click convert and select add RIFF-WAV header to Mp2 or MP3 file.
navigate to your mp3 (or better yet a copy of it)
select convert, and when done place that converted file into one of the IMR folders. (i recommend you add 3 numbers to the front of the name so the randomizer can uhm randomize it better.
following the instructions with IMR will let you play it

Thank you people, 'twas just the wrong sample rate. I run it at 11025 Hz now and it plays smooth as silk!
