in the beggining of the movie there were P 40s attacking the north african convoy
the planes that were escorting the Ju52s were the Bf 109G series or F series, i couldnt tell

What do you think, real or CGI? A few Ju52s are flying, looks like they used one of those for sure. The 109s? There ARE more flying now than there was a few years ago, so it's a possibility...

I heard that none of the a/c work was CGI, it was all real. at least one of the "109s" is actually a Hispano "Buchon" (merlin-engined 109), not sure about the other one.

mmm, really? the merlin powered 109 has bulges, but really, i didnt see any in the movie

I was hoping those Buchons would never have to "stand in" again!

the Messers from Messerschmitt Stiftung where not available for a popular air show in Germany the time they where shooting the movie because they where used for teh film. G Models. Some Ju-52 where spotted flying over Germany bearing the Hakenkreuz - I don't know how many they used but some real ones for sure. with cutting you can make them appear as an awful lot with only few actual aircraft.

Thats a good way to do it, fly the real one and add more by layering the footage.

I think there were 3 JU-52, 1 from Tempelhof and 2 Swiss. I worked in Berlin that time and often i heard that engine sound of JU-52 after the nightshift Big Grin

This is the P-40 used in the movie. Managed to see it at the Chino, CA Planes of Fame museum.
