Using DGen as a Coop Generator - FENRIR - 05.01.2009
Hi chaps.
My housemate and I are running LAN co-ops and enjoying them thoroughly, but we were hoping to do a campaign or two. Some of the user one's are great but due to vagarities in setup some of these missions tend to overtax my poor old system, or some just aren't as historically accurate as we'd like.
Mucking around with one of my offline DGen campaigns I realised the missions are all saved in the campaign folder and with manual editing could be copied and pasted over to a separate folder and with some light editing - VOLIA! - ready made co-op campaign for two!
However it means I have to play through as a single player first to gen the next mission, is there any way it could be modded so that we can play the missions with DGen generating as it goes?
And before anyone chimes in, I AM WELL AWARE of DCG and NGen, but I have tried both and really found them wanting in some crucial areas, whereas DGen brings up a nice balance of playability and realism for my taste.
So whats the verdict? Do-able or pie-in-the-sky?

I believe you have to have DGen generate all the missions first, then you can assemble the missions in an online static campaign. But it does not mean you have to play them all offline first.
If you disable the difficulty option about "No Instant Success" (2nd sub menu of difficulty options) before launching the campaign, then after you start each mission, don't take off. Press escape soon after the mission starts, then end mission, and apply: you will immediately generate the next mission.
With that method, you can generate 10/20 missions with DGen in a few minutes, if you have a powerful PC; at most within 30 minutes you will have a campaign folder full of missions generated by DGen.exe
I would appreciate, in case you try my series of DGen campaigns French Wings, that if you do that for some Battle Of France missions (H-75 and Morane 406), you send me your resulting coop campaign pack.
As far as using DGen.exe as an online/coop mission generator, I don't think it is possible at this stage: maybe a C++ programmer could answer?
Cheers and Happy New Year,
Vince

Doh...!!
Thanks vtrelut, man I must be slow or something!
This is a great idea for quick campaign genning, but it would be great if you could incorporate the career tracking and roster elements using the DGen engine - you think a C++ programmer with interest is the only option eh? Bugger.
