Solidworks - Ulrich Rudel - 06.01.2009
I was wondering if it was possible to import models from Solid Works 2004 into IL2. im not half bad at solidworks and can make some ok stuff in it.

Same here...
I'd really like to get the FW models out of 3ds max and into solidworks. I plan to build a real plane (75% scale), and it sure would speed me up to get the surfaces into solidworks!

Most likely not, as the case with that google thing, it probably wouldn't work terribly brilliantly. The best converter we have available for public use is a plugin script for max. All work in the past for Il2 has been done in max, and officially that was what the work was required to be done in.
It might be possible, but just letting you know so you don't waste your time building a model in a program that simply might not work. Someone who has it and tried might be able to answer if it does, but I'd lay two to one odds that it wouldn't be acceptable.

ok thx magpie just thought id ask because you can do some pretey detailed stuff in solidworks. guess ill have to get me a copy of max then

I think we can convert solidworks model
I use solidworks, Solidwork permit to export the model in stl, and stl model can be open with blender
and blender can export in 3ds, and many other format
I hope it could be possible, because I begin to modelize a bloch mb152

Well, if that works without any drop of anything (quality, texture mapping, etc etc) then go for it. Just bare in mind, Fatduck's and Maraz's converters are pluggin's for Max alone. They are the ones which we us for full exportation of aircraft.
It would be just a shame to see someone go to all that effort for it to fall apart at the end, just because of a stupid program incompatibility.

Dear colleagues!
Allow to share experience.
1. Models in SolidWorks are better for creating, as мmultibodyes part (.SLDPRT).
2. SLDPRT it opens and converted with the help
Deep Exploration CAD Edition or Rhinoceros.
Such technology with success is applied at us in firm.
Excuse for my English

Basicly can be build all main objects type D0 in whichever 3d software which have good export in to 3dsmax supported formats as 3ds,fbx,rh,dxf,3dm,obj etc ... but can bew here a any limitation, optimal external format is FBX or RH.
I use too Deep exploration CAD,Rhinoceros 4.0 (which have good support for 3dsmax) for any work but main work as mapping, create deep structure, materials and next things is better make in 3dsmax before export.
Optimal is make all things in 3dsmax.
Too good software is Lightwawe or good solution is Maya.
Direct support is for gmax from fatduck script exporter.
