first make sure that you are running the game in OpenGL
secondly, your gfx card might have real hard time playing the game in perfect especially with the water

It will work with perfect without problems. Use water 1 or 2 in your con.ini file.

Hi JC,
In game, the perfect mode can be found by doing the following.
From your opening screen, click on Hardware Set-up. Once there click on Video Options.
While in Video options, click on the Custom button (if it is visible). You will see 5 dropdown lists.
The only list that allows perfect is the "Landscape Detail" list. All the others allow excellent.
Make your selection and click the apply button.
As the other responders said:
Make sure you are using Open GL by clicking Hardware set-up and then Video Mode. If the Driver setting isn't Open GL, set it so it is.
Set Water = 2 in the config.ini file.

"Perfect is limited to OpenGL, 32 bit color mode Stencil buffer ON.

I prefer water 2 in perfect over water 3, for me there isn't that much difference for the loss of FPS. You won't have any problems, I ran perfect with a nVidia Gf4800SE water 2 before I switched to ATI...
