MOD Request: Pre-Cold War First Jet Planes Development - mavyalex - 15.01.2009

Bonjour,

Quelqu'un pourrait-il introduire un nouveau jet d'apr

BTW, the thread name is in English, so I assume he could...

Anyhow, the IL-2 game engine doesn't actually support guided missiles, however, I did have the Idea of making the missile an "aircraft" that would be attached like the German Mistel, the Japanese suicide bomber, the He-111Z and Me-324, and etc. I'm gona use the F-16 as an example;

The F-16 is carrying two "aircraft" which look like, and have the flight dynamics of missiles, and are identical in every way to a missile. When the "missiles" are released, they can control themselves, and their' AI tells them to go to what ever airplane they have a "lock" on.

A "lock" would be script that runs while the F-16 is in flight with the missile attached. The script could tell it to target whatever is "highest priority"(Whatever has the largest IR signiture) within a 15* or so of directly in front of it, and it would carry a short delay before the missile "locks", this MIGHT be able to somehow interact with a script that gives you a "tracking" and "lock" message. When you hear the growler, it could be the missile saying something over the radio, with the sound file being the tracking tone, or the lock tone.

Sorry if it's a bit confusing, esp. if English isn't your native language  ... But in short, I.M.O. it COULD work by tricking the game into thinking the missile is an airplane that's attached like the Mistel.

First, though, we'd have to crack the AI code... Oh, and I don't know scripting language either, just a basic understanding of how it works...

English translation of my request - mavyalex - 15.01.2009

Hello,

Really sorry.

I was asking if there was any project of introducing further jet planes in IL-2 1946 (WWII jet planes or pre-cold war) such as the F-86 Sabre or Ryan FR-1 Fireball?

I found several early jet planes on Wikipedia that were designed during WWII...

Thank you.

And also I wonder if its possible to develop a MOD to introduce the first guided missiles (primitive ones).

Wow, that post took me awhile to write  .

As for the aircraft, someone is currently working on the F-86, but not the "Fireball"

the x-4 missile is in the game and has rudementary controls, not self guiding though.
you fly it with trim, but if you ever manage to hit anything moving with it them kudos to you

Try it against heavy bombers, it was made to bring these down, not to dogfight fighters. And you don't actually need to hit to bring a say B-29 down, it's enough to get it explode near it to knock off a wing.

I have been thinking along the same lines of this and it is possible for the AI to be a pilot of the missile. Thing is though they are determined to get kills and will not stop until fuel is out. So would have to get them to fall away once target is lost.

But still is a major hurdle, the game does not allow speeds in the excess of 700 MPH IAS, you will explode. You can get around this. As the MIG 9 in game is capable of diving above Mach 1 but not at low heights, which would be at higher heights as Mach is TAS which varies at all heights. So this missile would have to be limited for speed until we get past that 700 Mph IAS problem.

As for the X-4 Missile, could try assigning it similar properties as the MXY which the Ai will kamikaze with.

The X-4 can be fired in a dogfight even with BVR 5 KM, switch to enemy view, fire missile, guide it in reverse, like a SAM proximity fuse, similar rocket shape almost to the Firestreak missile that the Lightning Jet fighters flew with. Even in a dogfight you can fire these missiles but closer you are to enemy the less chance you have at guiding them in time.

But personally as much as i would love a MIG 15 and saber Jet i would rather go backwards in time than forwards and get some biplanes. Sopwith's etc.

Following topic: Guided missiles - mavyalex - 15.01.2009

Hello all,

Following this topic: I understand that creating such guided missiles would be tough (or maybe not...) If it is possible to develop , can somebody explain how to do it and maybe I will try to do it in my spare time?
I don't know how to develop programs, but I am a fast learner and I know a little about scripting (by the way IL-2 1946 uses which computing language? C++? Java?)

Don't hesitate to contact me in PM to explain me how to proceed and I shall be gald to contribute to the IL-2 community.

By the way: is there a definitive guide/tutorial explaining from A to Z how to create new planes for IL-2 1946 or add new features (I only know how to use GMax 3d modelling for now...). Something like the IL-2 1946 Bible (for non-programmers)? :-)

Good day.

I'd like to also, so I could help out Hellzone with implementing my model... You can do models for people that know it though, what I'm doing.

Nope, the rules here are figure it out yourself or prove you're worthy of it or something. There is no open talk of it... I'm not really the one to say, but that's what I've heard. I just hope the poor thread doesn't get thrown in prison and locked up...

Alright, on topic, past behind us...
Wolf's got a good point, we wouldn't have to make new AI for the missiles, it could just use the MXY's. And the missiles could be "planes" the Tu-4 carries.

This game engine has limits that would tend to make it unsuitable for anything but the earliest jets. The performance near mach is not modelled and in even F86/Mig15 that is signifigant. The other HUGE issue is that there is no code to implement tracking/guidance radars into the game and that knocks out most jets post Korea. It should be able to handle Korea with a fair amount of success although the combat ceiling issues might be hard to model precisely.

Since 1946 came out with the IL10 already included, a pretty good Korean plane set would not be that difficult. The F80 is done or nearly so IIRC, the P51 Corsair are available as are the Yak9U to act as the Yak9P and the La7/3 to act as the La9/11 With that set the first 6 months or so are already basically done.

Toss in the F9F Panther, the AD Skyraider, the F86 and the Mig15 and you have a new Sim basically.. should be a lot of fun until SoW comes along.

If you are talking about the early guided bombs that were implemented in the last months of the war then yes, model the 3D of those winged bombs with a flare in the back. Give it the properties of the X-4 but without the fuel and the proximity and you got wire or radio guided bombs. If you are talking about IR Missiles which is way futuristic for the sim. Try looking at other early sims that use Java code, perhaps try opening them up and taking the code out and see how it is done correctly. But not happy about those weapons, i like the gun kill with some fancy foot work on the dance floor to preheat the guns. Big Grin

Yes but back on topic even though this one is quite interesting as well. Obstacles.
