I cry......

Nice grandfather, nice movie.....

Touching, really. Its great that the people in the US honor their veterans. Those red-striped Mustangs were from the 31st FG, weren't they?

And to think that a single plane from our WWII air force survivies in Bulgarian museums today, such a pity ... :?

Thanks for posting Fly!

Messer - could you please tell me more about the picture on your signature? Specifically what type of plane that is (not the P-38) and also where may I see a larger picture?

Thanks!

Double_Ugly , it's a painting by the avaiation artist Marii Chernev called "Miss France". The scene depicted is Capt.Victor Atanasov, CO of 2/6nd orlyak, scoring a P-38 over Dolni Pasarel on 20 December 1943 with a french-built Dewoitine D.520-C1. Here's a larger version: http://www.acesofww2.com/bulgaria/d-520.jpg

And here's a link to his gallery: http://www.militaryartgallery.com/HTML/ ... nev%20.htm The D.520 seem to be among his favourites. Big Grin

Yes that is the markings of the 31stFG,15thAF.
As I've mentioned before, I have a book called 'Mustang ace' by Robert Goebels whom was an ace from the 31stFG, 308thFS and in it he talks of Jim Brooks being a good friend of his. And in the center pages there are pictures including the very picture of Jim bare chested crouched on the wing that is on the web page.
The book is highly recommended reading.

Fantastic Fly, thanks so much for sharing. I've never seen that many Mustangs all in one place! Great story and a great and humble man...
