Flying - Landing - Flying Again - agracier - 25.01.2009
Wondering if anyone has given any thought on how to mod the FMB so that it would allow an AI controlled plane, t start a mission flying, then land and afterward take off again?
That would make for some interesting variations in missions.

You mean like if your damaged you can land and then a little loading screen comes up and during the loading the AI repair, refuel, reammo ur plane?
Good idea but might be a bit tricky to do dont you think?

I think he means having the AI land, taxi , stand there for a while being 'refueled', taxi to the runway again and take off.
I think its a nice idea

Yes, the last one. An AI plane need not necessarily be damaged to land and fly again. Nor need there necessarily be any sequence of screens during the wait.
But just a mod to have a way to have a plane land, wait around a bit, then take off again to resume flying. I can imagine the rest in my head if need be ...
I like it when multiple things are happening during an off-line mission. Like having both red and blue conduct bombing raids on respective airfields, or having a flight of incoming (transport) planes trying to land prior/during an enemy bombing attack. If they could take off again afterwards, say just prior to an attack, that would add some excitement ...
Now I've noticed that once a plane is given the ai instruction to have a landing, no further waypoints can be given. A bit of a shame actually.

Moved - please post in the correct sections...

Or having water rescue crews in the PBN land to pick up downed crew and take off again. That would be nice. 8)

That is the key element here I think you have identified - would it be possible to adjust the FMB so that 'landing' is not always the end point of a flight... I have no idea if that is possible. Another issue I can imagine would come up would be having the aircraft taxi back to the runway for take off, they find their way to the parking area ok - so it might not be impossible.
Anyway I definately agree, it would add alot of options for missions - as it is you can only really emulate this by having a flight land, then an identical flight take off at the time you specify. Which I guess you could imagine to be the pilots swapping aircraft or something?

Did that once in a desert mission with a KG-200 B-17 sneaking in disguised as an Allied aircraft, landing and deploying commandoes to attack a RAF airfield, after all the fireworks go off (P-40s with bombs and no fuel airspawning - they immediately crash) have the commandoes get on board again and take off. Had everyone who flew the mission fooled 8)

I wouldn't mind seeing something like this as well. Something else to consider would be having the planes all start "in chocks" and have to start and taxi just like in real life. Not all planes started on the runway. This could be made as an option to select. With the new UI1.1 and the new airfields we are all seeing, it would be nice to have the squadron taxi from dispersal points to the runway to take off.

I thought the 'recon' mission target does this? You only need to check the 'Land' option?
