3D meshes import/export help please - Muas - 30.01.2009

Hi everyone.

I need assistance to import/export 3D meshes from iL-2 to gmax or 3d Max 7.

I just want to be able to import an aircraft 3D model, or part of it, mod it, and export it back to iL-2 format.

Best tool in my very humble opinion is Dr Jones' Msh Converter.

(The link is inoperative)

Use it to read whole hier.him file and save to 3ds format.

Then you need Deep Exploration 5 (free trial 30 days) to convert to Max format.

Then you can manipulate your model in MAX.

After you have to import back to IL-2, here you have at least three options:
- Dr. Jones's Msh Converter itself
- Fatduck's exporter: (The link is inoperative)
- Maraz export Plugin: viewforum.php?f=31

I advice you to chose one of the latter (Fatduck or Maraz) that are simpler than Dr.Jones'.

I was missing that Deep Exploration part of the procedure...

I thought max could read the format directly out from the mesh converter...

yes You can try direct import in max,it working,but DE5 have advantage that can read long names in 3ds format.

Thanks for this magot, will be very useful. whats the deal with Hooks and LOD's etc? Do i need to export all of them if i would just like to edit a prop?

yes if you make edit,you must export with all things back.Colision boxes,hooks,lods,shadows ..
