.Gif Files Help - Dr. Strangelove - 03.02.2009
Hello, peeps!
Alright, this is only the second time I've had to type this up, but no matter. I'm trying to borrow my buddie's .gif from his photobucket account to use as an avatar. Problem is, it's too big to just link directly to (it works, it just takes up 1/5 the width of the screen, though!). Saving it to my harddrive results in a huge file (Unpacking issue, maybe? I don't know the cure for this). I tried saving it to my photobucket account (resizing it to their 'small' standards), and it looks OK. However, when I try to directly link it, I get a message telling me there's a "Debug Error", or some such thing. In fact, here's the message I get verbatim:
Unable to upload file
DEBUG MODE
Line : 251
File : usercp_avatar.php
Well, I've no clue on how to fix this issue I'm having.
Any hints, suggestions, money you might find on the ground, or rare minerals would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Hi Doc,
I'd right click on your buddies pikky and save to your hard drive, then use photoshop/gimp/paint.net to resize and then upload to your photobucket account - that should stop the error messages.
Cheers

Hey, Quelty!
Thank you for your help - I did just that, and so far I've managed to make it look pretty good at 150x111 (bare minimum, and, if it got any smaller, it wouldn't even be worth the trouble
).
Now it's in greyscale, I tried some different programs to optimize it, but to no avail. It is still several times too large for the 98Kb limit.
So, even though I may have the video looking good, the size is the main issue at this point...
My PSP9 loaded it up, but turned it into a single frame... Perhaps you might be able to help me in this area?
Thank you for putting up with all this!

Is this an animated gif file? If so you'll need something like Ulead's Gif animator or Easy GIF Animator Pro to edit it - they are available as demo's (I think) from the manufacturers and can also be found on most torrent sites.

Hello, sir!
Alright, I finally figured out that the only way to get this silly thing on there is through the sig, not avatar. It all works out for the best, anyway! The original copy is now in my sig.
Thanks to Sgt-Smithy for creating perhaps the funniest set of images I've ever seen!
Thank you so much for putting up with my cluelessness, Quelty! You've taught me a lot about the ways of the .gif. I owe you a few!

np Doc, that's what we're here for isn't it, to help out where we can. I have been playing with your gif and have managed to get it down to within size and height limits - it loses some fidelity in the process though - have added it as my avatar, have a squiz, if you like/want right click and save.
Cheers

Ah, good!
I wonder how in the world you accomplished that feat!
Yep, that Sgt-Smithy must close to a comedian to think of something this original...
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do (although I don't think that'll be much of a problem!).
See you around mate!
