HELP - mouse lag in FMB - SOLVED - tsb47 - 12.02.2009

I am getting major mouse lag in FMB. Especially on those maps which have large ed_map files e.g. Slot, ffb_Thailand etc. It makes creating missions quite difficult (not to say annoying - I get a sore wrist and a headache trying to predict where the mouse cursor is giong to go).

My computer runs IL2 like a dream in all but the most heavily populated areas (e.g. the populated areas in the fantastic battle for france map). It seems odd that the FMB, a much less graphically intense component of IL2, would encounter such lag.

Is this normal?
Is there a fix?
Can anyone think of a way of remedying this?
Could it be because I'm using a cheap wireless mouse?
Do people with wired mouses experience this problem?

Any help much appreciated. Salut all!

Get Fraps and see what the FPS are when you're working. To a degree yes it's normal, but if you are having to actually 'wait' for the curser to move then I'd say that either you have way to many polys or something is not right with your GPU...

Problem solved.

Go to config.ini --> [rts] section, change mouseUse=1.

The mouse will then track much more quickly and accurately for some reason. The cursor is also slightly different.

My old tracking was hugely affected by fps i.e. on Slot, fully zoomed out, 10 fps, the mouse would be so laggy it would be almost impossible to control. Now I'm still pulling down 10fps on Slot, fully zoomed out, but the mouse tracks as accurately as if I were pulling down 100fps - its unaffected by fps.

BRILLIANT --> Tell your friends, this makes mission creation much less frustrating!

Salut - see you in the skies.

PS.
I don't recommend mouseUse=3 or mouseUse=0. mouseUse=3 is just the same as mouseUse =2. mouseUse=0 gives you a cursor, but the mouse buttons have no effect

I discovered one problem with "Mouse Use=1". During a review of a QMB track using the FW-189 as an attack bomber I found that I was limited to 180 degrees horizontal movement and 90 degrees vertical movement. Also the track played back differently after I changed it back to "2".

It might help in the FMB but it has (IMO) less than desirable results in other uses, at least for me.

Thanks Boris. I replied to your reply in Mission for today. For the benefit of AAA only users I will say that this is unlikely to be a problem for Freetrack/TrackIR users in game. It will only be problematic where moviemaking is involved (this is not something that I'm into right now).

Salut for the feedback and constructive comments AAA!
