AI aircraft Taxiing: Possible? - StargazerWoods - 23.02.2009

Evening all...

I've decided to try mission/campaign building and want to give my missions some signs of life by having it look as though there is stuff happening. One of the things I'd like to have is:-

As your plane spawns on the runway, you start your engines and prepare to take off. In the distance you can see another plane that has supposidly just landed and is taxiing off the the far end and slowly creeps up the taxi-way to the parking area.

But what's happening is:-

Your plane spawns on the runway but before you start your engines and prepare to take off, you hear the panic-stricken voice of one of your flying buddies over the radio, "We're going down!". in the distance you see the plane hit the ground and skid along on its belly. It now blocks the end of the runway.

I noticed that waypoints for aircraft have four settings. Takeoff, NormFly, Landing and something else I can;t remember off the top of my head. The normfly option can be set to just 10m altitude but minimum possible speed is 165kmh. Even of this could be slowed down, I have no way of telling the plane to drop its landing gear... Or do I?

If you can tell me what I'm doing wrong or refer me to another mission I can download that has something similar, I'd be enormously grateful.

Cheers,

Rob.

Welcome to the addiction ...er...I mean club Man 8)

I am not quite sure but I think there is no way of controling the way AI use there landing gear.
I have been wrong before many times though lol

It is quite amazing what is available here at AAA...
I do not know myself for sure if there is a Mod or one in the works for this kind of thing.

The other setting is ground attack that was on top of your head where you couldn't see it

They only drop there gear once there in the pattern for a full stop landing.

I have experimented with touch and goes, and although I can simulate them I could never get them to drop there gear and retract.Experimentation on waypoints with landing maybe might put you in the ball park for a taxing aircraft with an invisable ship runway used to land the AI aircraft.Put the ship runway on the taxi-way so the AI aircraft lands along side of you at the other end maybe kinda a thing.Waypoints right there to land now!!! pronto though or something lol,
the ships runways are under ships in the object box, there like placing runways although there a little thick some of them and other things to be aware of.There is one invisable one that might work for you.

but in order to get the "I'm going down" you would need someone to have to be getting shot down at that precise time in the background somewhere. Then what about those guys in the back ground

It's a tough one to ponder for the FMB...
I know taxing aircraft has been brought up before as I have read on it,but I seem to think it was all related to Players Taxiing not the AI.Or maybe it was both lol

I thought I would say welcome to the FMB and offer you a link on mission building,
I don't know if you have ever been to Flying Nutcase's website or not...

It is one of the most informative mission building sites on the Net IMHO

Good luck and have fun with the FMB Man... 8)

Thanks for the replies and thank you EasyRider for the welcome to the mission building thingumy. I'm hoping that with a bit of luck and perseverance, I can make a heavy-bomber campaign that's half good. However, while I learn, I'm using a completely fictional setting so don't expect any historical stuff from me just yet.

I hadn't yet heard of the site you mentioned but will be sure to give it a thorough seeing-to before I get to lunch-time. I'll take any hints and tips I can lay my hands on right now.

Epervier, that looks a bit like an ini file or some other kind of system generated routine to tell the mission what to do and when. Problem is, I'm still too new at this to really understand the whole thing. It's a bit like web-design... Some people use HTML an write the code, others use Microsoft Frontpage. I'm afraid in a direct comparison, I would be at the Frontpage stage.

Is that text an indicator that there may be some way to trick the system or that the parameters simply do not and can not exist and therefore I need to use a static aircraft on the taxiway instead of a moving one?

This is a single mission. With notepad, create a file "test.mis" and copy/paste the text.
It will be changed in the FMB.

Sorry, translated by Google !

StargazerWoods

The text that was posted by Espervier is actually a mission file.
Copy it and paste to notepad and name it and save it.

Once saved you can change the file extension from .txt to .mis and that text then becomes a mission file that is readable by IL2.Take your new mission file and put it into a folder and name the folder after what you would like to be the mission name.

Place your folder into IL2/Missions/Single/NN
The last folder in that string you will need to create and name it NN

Now go into your game and go to play a single player mission and you will find along with all the Nationality's ,there is a new folder called NN or new Nationality called NN

It is in there you will find your new mission.

You may also fire up Espervier 's mission in the FMB and check it out as it looks like he made a taxi mission with the ship runways and an A20-C

You will need to add your plane to fly in order to make the mission work in single player
Follow the guide on the website I linked you to for building your first single player mission

Merci-beaucoup Epervier pour votre mission, veuillez pardonner mon fran

You guys are seriously cool!

Thanks ever so much for the help. I'll stick it in and have a look. Just out of curiosity, I keep getting an error message saying something about the memory not being able to be read. Is this a bug in the FMB or is it because the map I'm practising with is enormous and my PC has insufficient hardware to cope?

What are your specs on your computer,do you have the minimum to run the game?

What version of the game are you running,I am on 4.09

Which version of FMB are you using ?

Vanilla FMB or right off the DVD IL2 1946 Stock FMB ?
This version the stock FMB should open all maps and missions for you.
Some call this Mission Building FMB

There is the FMB+ which is a Mod for making your mission building stock FMB better for mission building by adding some nice features. This version should also open all your missions and maps no problem.

Third version of the FMB is Unlocked FMB,which is usually refered to as Map making FMB,this version of FMB is known to crash your IL2.EXE on maps that are rather large. The smaller maps open fine with map maker FMB(Unlocked FMB).The larger maps need a tool to cut down the size of the Actors.static file so as there are less objects on the map ,then with less objects unlocked (map maker FMB) will be able to load the larger map. With this version (Map Making FMB)you also can't save missions as you would normally in the mission building FMB.

So one would need to know which version of FMB your running and your specs
