F-84 Thunderjet (???) - Tesla - 25.02.2009

I have been thinking about the Korean war addons that have been being worked on and wanted to contribute to it. Will an F-84 fit this? It's introduction in late 1947, it should fit IMHO.

Yes, the F84 was a very important piece on the Korean puzzle. At first they tried to use as B29 escort, but cannot fight against the Mig15 so they reroled the F84 to ground attack duties.
Very important plane, and I'm sure will be a very nice addition

A criminally underrated plane and the most important aircraft of the Korean War. I would love to fly it.

The F84 was a major ground attack jet in the early/middle stages of the war and slowly got phased out as the F86F's became more numerous.

I think that its important for people to choose a project that really excites them..because its a boatload of work to actually do it.... That being said..

Do the F9F5 Panther instead .. because that REALLY excites me! Smile The thought of an F9F on a CV with rockets and bombs and the coops that could be made is just too much..

I recently saw the F-84 on "Great Planes" series and they stated that over 60% of all the ground attack missions were flown by F-84s. Only a few were actually shot down by Migs and the F-84s shot down a few Migs too, however, over 200 were shot down by ground fire.

Therefore if we really want to do the Korean War justice a straight winged F-84 would be appropriate.

An 84 would be wonderful. Hopefully u can at some point get it rigged as a new plane with its own flight model; it had more thrust than the F80C but was a ground lover that took alot more runway, so much so that they tended to attack external rockets for assist, but I know we don't have that. The E and G models are the korea versions for the most part, but the B and D were common in the late 40s. My Redstar/White star 1948 cmpn Ive worked on for 19 mos now could sure use a D model in a future versoin, but I'll take what I can get. It was in considerable service in B and D models by 48, and the first ones to Korea were the E models.

I found this Russn site that has hundreds of drawings, photos, diagrams , cockpit shots etc, for free. I dunno if you guys know about this , or even if these drawings can be of much help, but I assume it can. Thanx for all the work you put into this stuff btw.

Here are the drawings it had concerning the 84. The B,D,E, and G models were pretty much identical from the outside, differing primarily in the engine thrust.

Here's a cockpit shot. I'm sure you could use the P-80 cockpit in the meantime though, as it is very similar.

I guess you may have to use it in place of an already existing plane, but I urge you to use something besides the P80, as it would go really well wiht the 80s. Maybe one of the He-162s or such. Just a suggestion. This plane would have all sorts of historical use, actual and alternate history.
