ME 109 hub spiral? Is it possible? - chas1963 - 04.03.2009

Maybe I'm not fully awake... Confusedhock: but I feel like I have never seen a spinning spiral hub (in motion) on a Messerschmidt BF109. Am I missing something? Should I go downstairs and get another cup of coffee? Or is the spiral pattern not possible under the current grafix (skin) program? I have download the propeller mod and the effect of changing RPM is quite convincing...a spinning spiral to hypnotize my victims would be quite wonderful (lol).

thanks good chums...and morning.

What's actually funny about spirals and aircraft are that many people think they are to show that the engine is running so that you don't run infront of it.. but actually it's for scaring off flocks of birds :p

one of the other theories is that it was to put off the aim of bomber gunners. At the range of contact, and the speed the spinner rotates I can't really see how that would work myself :?

There are plenty of skins out there with spirals on the spinner and they all rotate in game , just very slowly

I fly jets for a living and I can assure you that no flock of birds gets scared of the spinners of my engines (sadly)... much less by the whole 70 Tons airplane at 300 KTS.

In my experience, nothing seems to work... landing lights, radar,... or even spinners. Seagulls, waterfawl, storks.. and even vultures often are cought by airplanes.

Next time try crossing the road when a front-view 3 ft wide fuselage Bf.109 comes to you at 300 MPH and lets check your reflexes.

That was a funny idea buddy.
