Missing Spitfires - DutchRanger - 04.03.2009
Check this out:
One thing that disturbs me is that
not all spitfires that flew in ww2 are actually in il2,I wonder why?
I am especially talking about the Mk XIV and Mk XVI:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No._402_Squadron_RCAF
This squadron was based in
Grave (Holland) and later on in
Volkel (Holland) [At
Fliegerhorst:former german base]
http://www.scribd.com/doc/4599005/Pilots-notes-Spitfire-XIVXIX-Griffon-65-or-66-Engines
Wouldnt it be a great idea to put these in the game, MOD people?
Grtnx,
Dutch

That disturbs you? There isn't a single B-26 in the game either (over 5000 built). How's that for disturbing?
Rest assured though... the XIV is being worked on.
Thx!! - DutchRanger - 04.03.2009
Thanks  guess I had to look better :/
So now Ive read they didnt put the Mk XIV in the game cause they weren't finished..
Like wise for the B-26 huh... to bad ...... A SHAME.
I hope they will not forget to put in the .50 Call versions in that MOD, :?

Stirling , Whitley, Lancaster, Hampden, Swordfish, Invader , Devastator the list goes on and on of aircraft not in the game but the lads on here are doing what they can. I'm already at 14 gig , wonder how big this sim is going to be when I decide to stop downloading updates and mods ???

firstly the mk16 you mention is basically a mk9 but with a packard merlin engine( RR engine built under license by pakard) so it woild be worth anyones effort to input this into the game.
Secondly the mk14 you also mention was the second griifon 61 (later 65)engined spitfire. This was an important step and definatly should be included(delivery october 1943). I suspect that it wasnt included by oleg purely because of the whining luftwaffa pilots who already call the 25lb spit "uber" as the mk14 was fitted with a two stage supercharger and could easily catch a FW or 109.
Lets not forget other varients here either. Mk12 . first operational griifon spit. single stage supercharger , originally desinated the MK4 (yes there was a griifon engine at that early stage!). This only flew from british soil to catch hit n running luftwaffa planes as early as 1943!
On my spitfire wishlist would also include mk2,mk3 ,mk7(extended wingtip), floatplane mk9b, mk12, mk14, if only

Another Spit is the MK-II, is very near MK-I but the engine is better.

Hi all, first post!
I'm afraid the Mk X1V was probably left out because it was simply too good to fit in with what the Lufty boys flew in summer 1944. It's fairly clear from the contents of this series that Germanic (and Rusky) jockeys were especially well catered for, if you get my drift..........
That Griffon powering a 5 blade prop was a bit special. Couldn't have the RAF winning all those online 1944 dogfights and upsetting the WW11 revisionists.

I don't think there's been a single, non-specialist (i.e. B-17 FF or the like, where it's focused on one thing) WWII sim in the last decade that's featured a British heavy. I'd imagine it's because the devs just assumed that nobody would really want to fly at night, but that's clearly not the case...

I'm probably going to put my hand up to release a MkII Spit and revised MkI Hurricane (+12lbs), especially for the upcoming new Channel Map. I'll finish current work before announcing it in the beta mods section though.
The MkXIV was probably left out because Oleg was still regarding Il2 as an Eastern Front sim, with a touch of western Front expansion just for kicks, he added a 1946 fantasy too for more kicks. Pacific Fighters is a whole new dimension but that is its own subject. But concentrating on the Eastern Front emphasis Il2 always had, in the Battle of Berlin there were relatively few MkXIV Spits. During 1944-45 the prominent numbers in RAF squadrons over Europe were still MkIX and even LF MkV. Then there are Mustangs and Tempests...
The Soviets used the LF MkV and MkIX but even the latter didn't see any action, they were sent to Moscow and used in comparative tests against new Soviet planes.
It is really the AAA site which opened up a whole new series of wonderfully detailed campaign maps extrapolating western Europe, the Mediterranean and other important locations for an expanded, total WW2 flight sim. Since then of course the MkXIV has been sorely missed.
I think the MkXVI too has a place, since most built were cut down fuselage and clipped wing fighter-bombers, it is still a unique and beautiful looking addition to the current Spitfire lineup, it's just that much easier it uses the MkIX flight modelling.

Good for you vanir!
I've definitely thought the MK II Spit was a needed addition to the sim.
