Prop change needed for the P-47D-22-RE - Bo_Nidle - 05.03.2009
There has always been something about the Razorback D-22 Jug model that struck me as not right from the very beginning but I could never put my finger on it until tonight and I cannot believe I missed this: It has the wrong propeller type!
It presently has a Curtiss type like the previous D-11 Jug.
It should be fitted with a Hamilton Standard type as fitted to the D-27 bubbletop.
The most obvious difference is the Curtiss has a long spinner the Hamilton Standard a short one.
Is any modder out there able to fit the Hamilton Standard prop from the D-27 onto the D-22?
Here's a pic of a real D-22 so you can see what I mean:
I for one would be grateful

The tricky thing is that IL-2 simply name the D-22 without ending. AFAIS only RE built D-22 received the Hamilton whereas RA built D-22 still were produced with the Curtis prop. (don't nail me on that)

Ham Standard is an hydromatic prop and the Curtiss is an electric prop. One uses engine oil to control pitch and the other uses an electric motor.

I understand what you mean about the aircraft built by different companies having the different props. However the only references and pictures I can find all describe or show the HS prop.
That said I have learned not to take "reference" books as gospel so I have no doubt you are right.
Oh well, at least the D-22 is still accurate then.

There are at least 2 different Curtiss Electric Props. A smaller 12ft 2" prop
