OpenGl keeps Defaulting to Original Settings - il2sarchiapone - 06.03.2009

Hello, all. I have read through many of you're suggestions on improving graphics via OpenGL/Perfect mode. I have gone into my config settings and changed Water=1 to Water=2, and Effects=2 to Effects=3. I save the new config settings and launch the game and the changes are dramatic, and would like to keep them. However, once I close the game and re-launch later I notice the graphics revert back to the original settings. I go back into my confg file, and sure enough, the settings have been reset to default again.

How can I permanently keep the settings without it re-setting to default?

Anyone know why this is happening?

I would especially be interested in what "fly_zo" has to say regarding this, as I have always gained the most useful troubleshooting knowledge through him.

Thanks.

BTW: I prefer Army.

Are you using Vista or XP?

If you're using Vista, you need to move the game from the C:\program files\ubisoft\IL-2 1946 directory to some place other than c:\program files. Prgrams that are in there are protected by the UAC in Vista and will revert back to their original state if changed.

If you're using XP, are you going into the controls section of the game after you've made changes to the config.ini? If so, stop. If the graphics settings you make in the conf.ini are beyond what the game is capable of showing you in the game setup section, then it will revert back as well.

I have a similar problem. When I play online my settings work with the config.ini changes, but when I fly offline I get the default config.ini settings :?

I use Vista and I have UAC turned off and I am the Admin.

OpenGL Perfect Settings - il2sarchiapone - 08.03.2009

Hello, Redleg. I'm using Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 3.0. My Ubisoft folder containing my Strumovik folder is located on my E Drive, which is an HP Media Drive. However, I would think the problem I'm having would happen regardless of what drive I'm using.

I have an ATI X1900XTX graphics card with 512MB and am running everything on an AMD Athlon 64 FX-60 Dual Core Processor. I would think that should be more than enough to meet that games recommended requirements (listed here):

Computer: Pentium III 800/AMD Athlon 700 or better
Memory: 256 MB of RAM ( 512 MB is recommended)
Operating System: Windows®98/ME/2000/XP
DirectX: DirectX 8.1 or higher (included on disc)
Video Card: 3D video card (DirectX 8.1 compatible) w/32MB RAM (64MB recommended)
CD-ROM: 4X CD-ROM or better (Not recommended for use with CD-RWs)
Audio: Direct 8.1 compatible sound card
Internet/Network Play: Internet connection (56 kbps or better) or LAN for multiplayer
Hard Drive Space: 1.1 GB

Again, here are is my system info:

Operating System
OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Professional
OS Version 5.1.2600
ServicePack 3.0
Product ID 76487-640-1464517-23089
System Uptime 3/8/2009 12:35:18 PM
Internet Explorer Version 7.0.5730.13
Microsoft DirectX Version 9.0c (4.09.00.0904)
OpenGL Version 5.1.2600.5512 (xpsp.080413-0845)
Free Physical Memory 499 MB
Free Page File 1990 MB
Free Virtual Memory 2004 MB

Regarding your question: "are you going into the controls section of the game after you've made changes to the config.ini? If so, stop."

No, that isn't what I've been doing. I first load the game, then go into my graphical hardware settings and change from DirectX to OpenGL and change Landscape Detail from excellent to perfect. Then I cloase the game and go into my game folder and change my config settings. I then reload the game and play and the changes I made are evident. However, after playing a session and closing and reloading another game later, the settings revert back to default.

Anyway, I guess I will keep playing around with it until something hopefully works. Thanks for your help.
