Modifed subtitles and Aircraft info? - StargazerWoods - 20.03.2009
As we all know, sub-titles can be turned off via the ini file, however, my German is a little rusty (having only barely scraped through the foundation classes at school over a decade ago) and my Russian, Italian, French, Greek, Polish, and everything else is totally no-existant so I need to have some translation in place.
Problem is, when things get a bit hairy in combat there can be about a dozen messages top centre of my screen which can intefere, especially in a fighter plane or or bomber turret situation, with tracking enemy aircraft.
Has it been, is it currently, or could it be possible to change the font size and position to maybe have much smaller text in a less vital area of the screen?
The same goes for the Throttle x%, enemy bridge destroyed, Flaps: Landing, etc messages. I saw a mod recently that allowed for messages to be removed or altered but I think that was text only mod. If that also could be resized and moved, it would go a long way to de-cluttering the window areas whilst still providing the relevant information.
Any feedback on this is appreciated. If somebody thinks it might be possible and wants to give it a shot, I may not be able to sponsor in the traditional sense but they'd have my everlasting gratitude. If somebody has an idea but no time to tinker, write some thoughts here and if I'm too stupid to work it out, perhaps someone else might.
Thanks in advance,
Rob.

There was a nod a while back that changed the size of the HUD text, also one which allows you to replace the HUD messages for others. You'll have to try and search around for those.
Meanwhile, in your conf.ini, in addition to the NoSubtitles line, is another line NoChatter=x.
You can change this to 1, if i remember correctly, and you will only have one line of text messages in the top middle of the screen at a time.
I might be mistaken from memory here -= its either that line, or the NoHudLog line just below it that must be changed. Its been a while
In fact, I think it is the NoHudLog line. Eg, if you change it to 3, it will display max 3 lines of text at a time.
The NoChatter line is for radio chatter, i think...
Hope I explained okay, feeling a bit woozy roght now... :o

There has been a speechpack available for years now that will change the German and Russian voices to english with German and Russian accents.
I seen they have it over at M4T "Barbeque English">

Thanks for the replies peeps...
I've downloaded a few bits and hopefully I can at least clear off those subtitles now. Thanks for the pointers on that one.
Whilst the speedbar mod thread has provided me with a bit of information that can help me out with something else entirely, I was referring (in my original post) to the blue and white text that appear son the right hand side for throttle changes and so on.
I'm guessing though, given the type of modification for the other bits that this probably is yet to be discovered or simply not possible. I will wait and see on that one. I'll continue to poke around and see if anything surfaces.
Cheers,
Rob.

Look around here for the font mod- that way you can at least make the text a lot smaller.
- StargazerWoods - 20.03.2009
I think I found the font mod but there's only one link for it and it went down a long time ago. I will try sending a PM to the creator.
Thanks for the tip.

changing fonts, not a mod as such -
Another way of not seeing the flaps, throttle messages at all or changing what they say is to edit your hud_log_ru.properties file. Open it in wordpad and you will see all the data organised into two columns - you can change or delete stuff from the RIGHT COLUMN ONLY.
You will find the hud_log_ru file in either ..Files/i18n or ...mods/STD/i18n folder.
Hope this helps
