Controllable ground units? - Strike - 21.03.2009
Hi there!
I just thought of a funny idea which i think requires more coding than modeling.
Basically, I thought that if you take a bomberaircrafts flight model, then edit the code strings for lift and drag and everything, and place it on a ground vehicle, like for instance the wirbelwind. Then you edit the "flight model" to be able to give the vehicle propulsion as long as it has wheels. (For instance if the tracks of the wirbelwind gets damaged, you will have the same effect as a plane that has bellylanded... the friction is too large to move it anywhere). So if you now have a "pilots" (driver) position which can use throttle to move forwards and rudders to turn the tank around and in addition to this, you add a gunner position (turret) to do the rotation and firing of the turret... what you're left with is a controllable ground vehicle.
If this works, it could be done for ships too by using seaplane flight models so that they can move on water... And also perhaps add stationary ground defenses. Maybe a flak 88 or bofors 40mm could be made an aircraft with no engine where the pilots position is just there for observation while the gunner has control of the gun.
I think it's possible.. but probably requires a lot of coding and trial\error.
Let me know what you think

Thanks for encouraging
Played a lot of RO actually, but you see it's not my favourite game.. IL-2 is and i'd like to implement some new elements to it.
Anyways strangelove, thanks for the heads up!
I thought it was weird of me to think of this first
