Take it! 2 stock Bf-109G2 new slots for modding! - Muas - 22.03.2009

A pair of Bf-109G2's in their own new slots for anyone who wants to install mods without messing up the original aircraft.

They are defined as Bf-109G2 Early, and Bf-109G2 Late, but names can be changed to anything else by editing the plane_ru.properties file.

Each has its own cockpit so you can apply individual external and internal mods.

Download a pair of brand new G2's to trash!

AIRdomination - How about a 109G2/Trop and a 109G2 with a fixed tail wheel like on some very late models?

@ pz1b: The Bf-109G-4 is identical in handling and loadout to the G-2. The only difference is a new radio mast, fixed tailwheel and larger wheels (with the wing bulge). These changes had no noticable effect on performance.

As for a working G-4 and G-2 trop, I am currently putting them together for my squad and I will post when done Smile

Muas, would you mind making some extra Hurricanes for us to do the same thing with? Several of my AI Messerschmitt pilots in the MTO have complained that their targets don't have Volkes filters. Tongue

I have not watched G-4Mod.

G-4Early:change position of the fuselage antenna lead-in from G-2.

G-4Mid:Early + larger mainwheels.

G-4Late:Mid + larger tailwheel. (by Wiki-Eng)

Was the radio mast different? I know it didn't have the goniometric antenna yet, but I thought the radio mast was the same lenght.

Just to be clear, the wing bulges in this case are the smaller 'teardrop' style, not the larger later rectangular type. :wink:

The objective of the G-4 was to update radio installation (FuG 16 from FuG 7?) and to better accommodate external stores under the fuselage like the 300l tank or 250kg bomb for rough field conditions, with modified undercarriage (more ground clearance and sturdier main wheels), wasn't it?
Externally the quickest tell was the non-retracting tailwheel, if you weren't an expert on radio masts?
Most seem to have gone to JG52 for operations in the Kuban in late 42. JG3 and JG54 seemed to go from the G-2 to the G-6.

I guess if you operated close to HQ and often flew clean you didn't have to worry about radio performance or tearing off external stores so much. Gives an idea how rough the conditions must've been in the Kuban too, for Messerschmitt to tailor a new model. At least this appears to be the case the way I'm figuring.
Especially considering the G-5/6 were entering production in October 42 and the G-1/2 had only just entered service the previous July, the G-4 was really a superfluous variant otherwise. Presently I refer to it privately as "the Kuban G-2 update."

The G-4 was a non-pressurised version of the G-3. Only 50 G-3s were produced in Jan/Feb '42, wheras 1240 G4s were produced between Dec '42 and Sept '43.

After a bit more research it appears that there were minor changes to the radio apparatus and the radio antena was in a different position.
