3 Ki-84-Ia Hayates (my interpretation of)

Ki-84-1a_9th Sentai 2nd Chutai Nanking China 1945
For years the design of the 9th Sentai tail marking has been questioned, despite being depicted in profiles and artwork, because of the apparent absence of photographic evidence. According to Minoru Akimoto the marking was representative of the historical spear of warrior Kiyomasa Kato during Japan's invasion of Korea around 1596...

Ki-84-Ia Flown by Lieutenant Colonel Hiroshi Yoshioka, Commander, 21st Hikodan (Air Brigade), Mabalacat West Airfield, Pampanga, Philippines, December 1944




Ki-84-Ia 104th sentai Manchuria 1945
Ki-84 Kou flown by an unknown pilot of the 104th Sentai out of Xingjian in China in late August of 1945.
