play with the water effects. - Anders_And - 03.04.2009

Hi guys!
Thx for a great community!
I have a question.
Is it possible and easy to make a mod that allowes the water to be changed to that "wavy" state with the white foam on top of the waves(the one that you get in stormy weather) to show up when you have lets say just hazy weather.?? I think its the best looking water but I very rarely see it and to be honest, I work as an airline pilot and when we fly over the english channel or the mediterranean it doesnt matter how much of a clear sky and a beautiful day it is, the water at the surface is never calm... You almost almost always see that turbulent and foamy water below you even from 25000 feet...

As far as I know there are three types of water in game.

1. Calm (under clear and good conditions)
2. Medium calm (under from hazy up to thunderstorm)
3. Stormy/foamy/wavy (under thunderstorm conditions)

Option 3 I would like to see already under Hazy conditions. Is there a way to fix this for the few of us that would like it??? I personally think it would add to the realism of the sim...

best regards

If you have an ATI card, Go to your Conf.ini and search for Water=X (x being what ever number is there most likely 1) and change to Water = 2.

If you have an NVidia card go change it to water = 4. Set weather to anything worse then Hazy and you will see waves. YOU MUST AVE GRAPHICS ON Perfect

I have my water effect set to water=2 and I have nvidia GTX8800 and the reason was that I see no difference what so ever with water 2 and 4.

So u are saying that with water 4 there is a difference but only with hazy conditions or worse??

water=3 , waves are weather depended
water=4 ,waves weather depended + foam

so I cant use water=4 with my radeon 4870HD ?

the thing is water 3 and 4 dont work properly with some drivers and cards. i use quad sli with 2 9800gx2 and 4GHz processor and when i run water 3 or 4 i get over 150 fps, but it stutters like crazy. i have tried all the settings under the sun and still the same. it is basically unplayable so its not always to do with power. older cards like 8800gt work better with water 3 or 4 than some newer ones, although i have been told that it might be down to the drivers

No. It's the shader models and only Nvidia's will render water 3 and 4, at least as far as I know.

Ive got an old ATI card and run water = 2 and get graphics like this:

Hawk thats a beautiful picture and thats the kind of water I would like to see under already "good" conditions. Far out to sea that more resembles what the water looks like more than the extremely calm water we have unless we set it to hazy but then we also get that terrible turbulence...
So any modder out there that can change that code for me???

i suggest you try water=3, it has foam, waves, and it is weather depended upon

Nvidia8800GTS 512 SAC handles this water pretty well, and other have mentioned, it will stutter no matter if you have your FPS in hundreds

I wish we could have the foam on the normal weather too...

and thx for the compliments on my picture Smile

Read my post Generalpsycho!

I already have that water and it plays fine, but I want it under it already under good weather conditions not hazy or worse...

I also see some waves with clear weather when I have my water=2 on ATI, but when weather is worse there are a lot of waves. Smile
But when I have my water on =2 the game will crash within 30 seconds, it plays fine, till I fly low over the water or when I look down. Cry
