Well
Espiritu Santo Island and Efate' Island had a major strategic role towards the eventual attack on PNG.

Looks like another great map in the works - thankyou!
You might want to scale down your map_c image for this forum though - that's the biggest picture I've ever had to scroll through!

OHH! Vanuatu, i was there in 1998- We spent 2 weeks in Aniwa and did some island hopping with my wife. It was our "honeymoon" (we travelled around the world- it took about 10 months). Pentecost is the home of the bungeejump. It was amazing. I saw those old hangars in Espiritu Santo. And then there is a famous "Million Dollar Point" where US dumped all the warjunk, it is a famous diving site. And they have this strage religion called John Frum Cult AKA gargo cult. Just google it!!
It is real hard to make pasific islands, coz olegs jungle is not very good.
I was planning to do Vanuatu at the time. Glad that you are doing it for us!
Cant wait to try it!!
There you go Fly zo - farang65 - 14.04.2009
I hope that's a tad better for you.
I thought Wow! Way to big when I first saw the thread as well especially the grey map too

i have some picture sources that may help with your construction.
from a mission builder POV how is the map to be used? these bases were mainly staging or waypoint bases similar to Hawaii. there was really no action in the area you've outlined.

nice work, beautiful, keep on & thank you
Hi guys - farang65 - 14.04.2009
Thanks for all the kind words.
I thought that this map could be used in campaigns such as The Slot/Vanuatu/The Slot.
Another aspect Vanuatu/NGNB/Vanuatu or NGNB/Vanuatu/NGNB.
Just a couple of thoughts Training Training and Training
All weather training, dog fight training, task force training, becoming familar with a new aircraft,
For the bombers bombing practice,
For the Black Cats searching for Japanese ships, search and rescue for ditched aircraft/pilot/s coming from PNG.
I'll let the mission builders decide on what they want to use it for.
For me it's historical accuracy.
Thrud,
I grew up with the tv series Baa Baa Black Sheep and had Espiritu Santo Island drilled into my brain at a very early age. Pappy Boyington was my first ace to read and know about then from there it just continued to Richard Ira Bong etc. I moved to Australia with family and from there it was Clive Caldwell.
So for me a great interest in the Pacific region history.
I feel that all areas should mapped to give more emersion for campaigns.

for research, you should scrape all the pics you can out of the footnote site.
here's one to start with.
