Battlefield action mods - nearmiss - 18.04.2009

Major missing component for IL2 have been a few tools just for mission builders.

Mission builders can do workarounds by aiming artillery at artillery across open fields and get some action, etc.

In the past couple addons we did get fires and smokes, which for sure is a big help.

-------------------

What I am talking about is the tools needed to build exciting immersive misisons.

Mission builders cannot build battle scenes that come close to anything war like in IL2. Workarounds can be done, but they take so long to setup.

So, what you basically get is a little action when you drop bombs or shoot something. You are however always surrounded by serene scenery, nice green grass and trees, etc.

We need some mods tha will create visual effects and maintain them, just like on a battlefield.

------------------------

Last night I was working with the SLOT maps and reading historical accounts Aug 1942 right after the US landed at Lunga on Guadalcanal. The Japanese were still on the island in large numbers and continued to fight around the Henderson airbase. The airbase was attacked by snipers, mortars, artillery, etc. until the time Japanese retreated from the island.

Creating battle scenes and having your aircraft enter the fray making ground attacks is surreal.

In actual battle there would be explosions, fires, smokes, burned out buildings and equipment and other stuff at battle scenes.

------------------------

We need some mods that perk up the action. I've suggested moving explosions that popped at waypoints, etc. Don't even know if that kinda thing is workable.

Currently, if you want battlefiled noise and explosions you have to set up artillery to shoot at each other. The problem with that is... artillery only shoots in a straight line and you cannot shoot over a hill or obstructions. So, in order to have artillery make some noise and explosions you have to carefully point you artillery and make sure they are within range and within site of each other.

As I recall reading from history there were artillery pieces that could shoot over 17 miles. This is not possible in IL2 series. It has been awhile, but there is a distance limit as I recall in Il2. I do know that NO army would every have artillery as close to each other or front lines as Il2 requires.

Anyway, We need some battlefield whoopla tools for IL2.

I can't help think someone couldn't create some moving explosions with timeout function like artillery objects in IL2. Having a bunch of moving explosions, smoke trails, etc. could sure make a huge difference in the battlefield experience.

Sorry, I can't help much... when it comes to buying $1,000 software Photoshop or other graphics softwares I can't afford to do that. I work with websites some, but nothing like what is needed to create the mods from what I've read.

I dealt with that exact problem (fighting around Henderson field at Guadalcanal) in a campaign I did:

I did not find it particularly hard to do.

I often fly outside views/hud and autopilot just to enjoy the playthru. It becomes more important to see and hear the action in such cases.

When flying inside the cockpit there isn't much to see (frane rails and aircraft) or hear over the engine for the most part.
