No Canopies open??? - Tigger88 - 19.04.2009

Hi guys,

I've got 'open/close canopy' mapped to the y key, but in all aircraft I've tried this appears to do nothing?

I have UI 1.1 installed (& some effects mods) & plenty ( :wink: ) of skins.

Am I missing something here?

You haven't tried all the planes. Open/close canopies was a feature introduced with the release of Pacific Fighters, and it only works with those aircraft: F4Fs, F4U's, Zeros, and a few others.
Some new mod planes, like the Spit MkXIV, have opening canopies too, thanks to the modders... :wink:

I guess it seems like 'all' to me because of the planes I've been typically flying in offline campaigns (P47, hurri, P51, etc - ) the planes I expected to have opening canopies - I didn't know this was only in from PF onwards!

I'd flicked through a few in QMB (but not F4, Zero LOL) too just to make sure i wasn't going :? & figured it may be down to something I'd installed or setup wrong!

I was just surprised my hurri wouldn't open up!

I'll try some of the US planes & some more spits

It would be a nice mod idea for someone to up-date the "open canopy feature" to ALL aeroplanes...

Therese 2 problems I remember with doing this;

1 you have to edit the 3d model of the cockpit

2 you have to edit the FM so you can open the canopy

The 2nd reason is why no one here will do it for existing aircraft.
