BF109G10AS and G14AS lower frontal engine cover inaccuracy - walter_solito - 21.04.2009

Hi!

Like my previous post I have find another little inaccuracy involving now the BF109AS of the G10 and G14 series (not so sure about the K4 but if I find something I'll edit this topic).

(I have find those inaccuracy because I make model kit of every aircraft of this sim)

The cover have two little bulge in the frontal lower right and left part of it's shape due to a bigger engine dimension!

Those cover are missing in that plane but for this fix I'm not so sure of it's easy realization because I can't find the involved file of the cover in the AC 3do slot!

I hope that someone can find useful my topic and if need some source I'll try to extract them from my PDF book!!!

All litle wrong detail detected is well come! Do you remenber the japancat work with Zeros?
He fixed a lot of wrong details in Zero.

I sugest you find a blue print to compare the with the plane, so will be better to call a 3Dmax expert to work.

Firstly you seem to have put tga picture files on the doc so it is ridiculously large for a couple of small pictures, at 30 meg. Try converting to jpeg for smaller file size, especially where uploading or asking others to host. It cost me about $2 to have a look at them (ISP's are stupid and expensive in Australia).

Okay about the fixes. Zorin, an excellent modder is currently working at new bulges for the 109 series that look much closer to reality. That's most of it right there.
You could argue the K-4 and G-10 need visibly larger supercharger intakes to signify the 605D engine. It already has a larger oil cooler which I think Zorin is improving also.
The sump cover is just a matter of skinning. I think the very small oil pump bulge can be simulated well enough with skinning too, it is such a small detail for a lot of extra work, but you might consider speaking to Zorin about it as he is already working on G-6/G-14 cowlings.

He's right though. The late 109s should have small bulges on the nose just aft of the spinner. I've never noticed it in the game, as I dont fly the 109 much, but if he says they're not there and he's looking for them, then they're probably not.

Although thats obviously a model, if you look forward of the oil cooler and follow the shadow, you will see where it bulges along the underside of the nose, just in line with the end of the first exhaust.

That shows the position better as the oval shaped area in the same position, underside of the nose, under the first exhaust. I wont uplod it here though, as its rather large, so just click on the link.
It's a pretty difficult area to make out in most photos because wartime photos are generally unclear, and that area of the nose is generally in shadow, making it difficult to clearly determine, but walter is right, it should be there if its not. (The 'k' series does have it too btw walter)

Yes Davew you are in base!!!

Infact all the 109G10AS and the 109K4 have those little bulge under the front engine cover , differently the 109G14AS , like writed in the 109G10 description that I have posted above , haven't those bulges!

I know that this is a very little detail but if someone have the goal of precision this can help him in develope the correct aircarft shape!!!

I'm neither a skinner nor a modder so I can't say nothing about , only a little observation:

If the trick can be solved by skinning we can have only some skin with because the most part haven't those features so I can suggest a 'visual mod' like (I'll try to explain my thought):

A skinner can do a drawing of those part only by reproducing the shape of the bigger pump cover in a transparent skin that can be copied , pasted on a normal skin (I don't know if possible because the various skin are a personal and shared draw and before to make this is preferible to know the skinner thought)

A better shared solution is a real graphical mod that give at all aircraft the correct shape but I repeat that I can't say nothing about others will.
