Loading error: Pilot1.mat....Spit Vb, and VC's - Guest - 30.04.2009

Hi all
This is strange, but here's a quick rundown of the planes that give me this error in QMB:
Spit Vb,Vb LF,Vc FB, Vc LF, Vc(2) and Vc(4).
All is fine until I choose RAF,RN or RAAF as the country in QMB. If I choose these countries, the viewer display disappears, and if I then load the mission, it fails at around 30% with this 'couldn't load Pilot1.mat' error.
FYI, I had a similar issue with the Tempests a few days back. I think these issues are related to the Forgotten Countries mod? Not sure...but, there was a fix for the Tempests, which was to edit an entry in the Pilot1.mat file, changing this line:
[Layer0]
TextureName ..\Textures\gb_01.tga

to this line:
[Layer0]
TextureName ..\Textures\Pilot1.tga

That worked perfectly for the Tempests, but the entry in the Spitfire Pilot1.mat seems to be correct?
So, a little stumped at this point. Anyone have any ideas?

You need to have the gb_01.tga installed in 3do/Plane/Textures.

Ok...pardon my ignorance, Veltro, but where do I find this gb_01.tga? I've done a search, and it doesn't appear anywhere in my IL2 folder...
:?:
Actually, i might be getting a bit cunfussed here. Let me get this clear. In the case of the Tempests, I had to remove the entry 'gb_01.tga', and replace it with Pilot1.tga. That worked.
Now, with the Spits, you're saying I need to replace 'Pilot1.tga' with 'gb_01.tga? I'm pretty sure that won't work, as there IS no 'gb_01.tga' file.... :?: Idea

Are you really sure you edited all pilot1.mat files the way that you described above? Because that should work, had the issue myself on a number of planes and could fix it every time with what you said above.

Do only the mod Spits (Vc & VIII fighter bombers) give you these errors!?

Try to look into every Spit subfolder and open the respective pilot1.mat files

Here: (The link is inoperative)

Add to D:\IL-2 Sturmovik xxxxxxxxxx......\MODS\pilots\3DO\plane\textures

You can choice what you want... this is my pack

Ok, thanks guys, i sorted it out with your help. Big Grin
I was making changes to the mat file in the Spit folder, but the pilot_skins folder was being used instead, so once I changed those ones, all sorted. Thanks a lot, chaps! Big Grin Big Grin (now i finally figure out what the pilot_skins folder is used for  )

Another question, Ranwers (or whoever) : Is it then possible to put several different pilot.tga files into the pilot folder, and use different ones by making the relevant change in the mat file?
