off runway starts - CoyMs - 04.05.2009

In my mission building, I like to have the planes start in hangers or revitments, not on the runway. on almost all maps you need to find a flat spot that is 3 or 4 kilometers off the field , and taxi over rough ground to the strip, but on the slot map,10-43 there is a strip on the island of Kolombongara that will let you place a plane on any of the taxi ways. It would be nice if someone could fix the rest of the airfields to act as this one does. It would be a great aide to builders like myself who like to have off runway starts for their missions

Recently I found out how to start from a hangar for instance and taxi to the runway.

This is my alternative solution in FMB:

First select a visible runway(in FMB under Stationary Ships and scroll down to the bottom) and place it where you want to start taxiing. Then go to tab WAYPOINT --> SET TARGET and select the visible runway as your target. Replace this runway by the invisible one (nr. 4). Take in account that nr. 4 has another size and the beginning and end are only indicated by little white L-shaped angles. Now try it out if your plane starts exactly where you wanted it. If not move this runway back or forth a bit.
Another thing: when you taxi a little bit too much to the left or right you fall of the invisible runway and Boom! explosion. So cover the area where you want to taxi

Real airplanes are NEVER started in a hangar for obvious security reasons.

Thanks Cpt_Biggles. Just tested it out and it works great, don't know how I missed that one

Just out of interest, does a normal flight waypoint work with airspeed and altitude set to zero?

No it doesn't ,does it? The aeroplane just blows up because the gear is raised. Dumb idea, forget I mentioned it

your welcome, one of my favorite mods, our squad always taxi out to the strip from revetments, hangars and parking bays. Big Grin
