Palm Tree Textures for Wood - agracier - 08.05.2009

I was looking and trying to find if there any palm tree textures had ever been made that can be loaded into the Wood section of map load.ini files? As a replacement for the other more northern types of woods that we already have.

I found a palm trees mod, but that is not really what i was looking for. Nor does it apparently change the randomly appearing trees in a landscape into palm trees.

I was therefore wondering if anyone knows of or has textures that can be used as palm trees or perhaps some other type of very sparse vegetation that would grow in a very arid or desert like landscape.

I'd prefer not to have them as objects, but as textures that can applied in the Woods section in a load.ini file.

Yes I now what you mean about those random trees.
It looks really off when you have them on the beach at random.

I thought that the new Sakashima map did a pretty good job with jungle and Mr.Oblongo's PNg map I thought made PNG look alot more jungly then the original map.

Before starting the new school term in Thailand I really had a chance to rap my head around the load ini.

I tried many textures on my Vanuatu map a few looked ok but nothing was there that really represented Vanuatu.

I took a s--twad of pictures from google earth.

Will be working on those textures this week end.

Will post up screenies to see which ones people like.

I am dealing with very thick mountainous jungle to sparse jungle and palm plantations some semi arid areas along some beaches and river tribs.

Also volcanos and lava flows.

I am also interested in your idea of palms for wood.

I'd be interested to use jpack's palms and Fred's palms if it could happen.

Fred has a wonderful selection of trees in his Thailand map a suitable wood forest could possibly be made out of that.

Cheers Kirby

I was thinking of palm trees as a wood texture for an arid region, say a desert map that would be painted on in the terrain map_t as an RGB value. The trees would have to be very sparsely spaced perhaps, but it would be a good way to present an oasis, or a coastal strip for instance.

I have a very good map of the Hejaz that I am fooling around with. Maybe not specifically suited to any particular campaign or battle, but the landscape is nice and it necessitate little in the way of cities - and those would be perfect anyway for using the new dlv_Egypt objects ... and even though it is desert and all the Lawrence of Arabia connotations, I remember reading about (date) palm groves and also thorny scrub brush, especially near the inhabited areas.

And while placing palm trees as objects is doable I suppose, it would be easier as a wood texture.

Interested in seeing what you may come up with.
