Help in installing the mods please. - Sniper85 - 09.05.2009

Hi everybody, this is my 1st post and as you have noticed from the title, I'm new to mods and I can't get my il-2 (original dvd) working with the mods/software downloaded from this site.

I've checked many previous posts in regards to similar problems but all I have now is a big confusion on what to install first and what needs to be done.

the opening screenshot (me109 with spit chasing) says: "4.08 Mods enabled and the version is 4.091b."

this is what I installed on a clean 4.08 version:

MOD_Activator_v5_2_IL2_4_08.exe
AC_INSTALLER_v3_3.exe
ENG_Sound_mod_Version_093.exe
409b1m.zip
409_MOD_b1m.exe
wrapper.exe

The last step was crucial as the new wrapper makes the game crash at 60%:

Can somebody be so helpful to just guide me a bit on how the make the mods work pls?
I'm from Malta, and seeing all the sweet stuff available in here (ex. Malta map), it's a shame I can't appreciate the work you guys are doing.

Thank you

Once you have ungraded to your version 4.08, I would simply download the (very large but essential) UI installer:

viewforum.php?f=58

Choose a download mirror, doesn't matter which one, Install the UI and then you ought to have most of the essential mods necessary. The game should work.

Later, when you have the game working, you can then begin installing new maps and other mods not included in the UI.

But first install the UI.

Also, a tip: make a backup copy of your game before installing anything. That way you won't have to un-install the game and then re-install everything should something go wrong with a mod.

And always install new mods one by one, testing each one out one at a time.

I don't see any mention of applying the 4.08 patch. Are you certain that your DVD is 4.08, and not 4.07?

agracier: thank you very much for taking your time in explaining the process...I will re-install a fresh copy of il-2 and i'm downloading the UI installer right now.I'll follow the instructions and see what happens...

8FS_Bulau: yes the game was updated to 4.08.Eventually I got mixed up after all the mod downloads and installation files.Right now it's version 4.091b and just crashes @ 60%. To avoid any further problem, I'm just re-installing the game and follow the steps the right way.

Thanks again guys...really appreciated.I'll post again, if I manage to make these great mods work Smile
