Just a sketch I did inspired by my having just watched Zulu Dawn. It was a load of pants, so you're not missing anything.

looking VERY nice...but i wonder, why does the dude with the flag not actively defend himself? i realize that such a figure is part of many paintings, but i never really understood their passive stance.... :?

Very nice work Moggy,,and I believe if a Zulu came close enough to the flag carrier he would
make good use of the stick its mounted on

If we look at the painting of the last stand of the 66th (inspiration for 3 of
the soldiers [see if you can guess which!]) the colour bearer does have a revolver out:

And in such things, they do tend to fight, with swords, pistols or the flag staff. Mine stands
there like a lemon because i'm not a good drawer. I'd've redone him entirely, but i rather
liked the way the colour was drawn, so he stayed.
--edit--
the drawing is darker, you can see more details of the ground and crowd in the real thing, i just
scanned it inneptly! Still, it was 1 o'clock in the morning!
guys, thank you very much indeed for the kind comments!
