This is a historical skin pack for VMA-223 containing 5 numbered aircraft and one blank skin - if you wish to add more .

The "Bulldogs" entered the Jet Age in July 1950, receiving their first jet aircraft, the F9F Panther. In August 1953, the squadron again deployed overseas to Naval Air Station Atsugi, Japan. The squadron operated in Japan, Korea, and Okinawa, returning to El Toro in October 1954. Shortly thereafter, the squadron was redesignated as Marine Attack Squadron 223, emphasizing its role in attack aviation. The squadron once again went to sea from April through October 1956, this time aboard the USS WASP for operations in the Western Pacific (WestPac). For the next three years, the squadron operated both overseas and at El Toro. In August 1957, the squadron was equipped with the North American F4B Fury.

I hope you like them.

I put an anti glare shield on the grey panthers I did. I guess these aircraft at that time didn't have them? I can share with you my template and save you the time of trial and error with finding the model's seams if you want them.

Anti Glare - Guest - 10.05.2009

Hi Bolter,

Based on the profiles and available pictures, these did not have the anti glare panel when VMA 223 first odopted this colour scheme, (which is around the period most people are interested in). I would not be surprised if it was added later, given the light colour of the skin. Everybody is doing various shades of blue and I fancied doing something different. I only do this for fun and if people like them then that is a bonus.

Given the nature of skinning and the resolution available, this can only be a representation, albeit as close as I can get.

Keep working on your great skins, look forward to their release, and of course thanks to flak for a great model.

regards,

GJE52

I love these 50's Navy and Marine schemes.
Nice to see such civilised comments, too. Looking forward to trying these out on the new Korea map. Thanks very much.
