[Help] Skinning CVE-116 for KTO campaigns (new) - Dixiecapt - 10.05.2009

(This was originally a request where I called CVL-30 San Jacinto, CVE-30 San Jose. I know! Sorry Razor!)

Anyway, I am trying my hand. I was able to get a skin for CVE-116 from VBF-12 in march, but it has an issue. I tried to fix this last night, but I am having trouble with one of the files. Take a look if you will.

CVE-116 SKIN for CVL-30 (for KTO Campaigns)

Thank You Very Much if you can help!

I had one problem, and one question.

... here are some pictures. Basically when I get close with the CVE the Elevators and the Antenna foul up. It seems one of the skins needs to be transparent someplace. I played with the skins, but I had no luck with the skin1o.tbg file.

(Below is actually the Skin on a small CVE, It fits better on CVL-30, and Has the same issues, so these shots work.)

Dixiecapt, you have me confused. There is no "San Jose CVE 30". There is a CVL 30 named the San Jacinto, whish is a little longer that a CVE and is quite a bit faster (31 knots vs. 19 knots). Get with your partner, Flatspin, and he'll explain the difference

The Jeep carriers were used allot in Korea. Mostly with Corsairs. To my knowledge, jets were never qualified aboard a Jeep. The Sicily CVE 118 was there for most of the war.

My bad I was trying to remember the Model name from heart. The CVL is the one I am talking about.
I know its longer than a CVE but the point is to be able to launch Corsairs in IL-2 with Napalm and Rockets. In IL-2 even with the Cat, that extra length and speed is needed. The point is to possible get a copy of a CVL painted up like CVE-116 the Badoeng Strait.

actually I think I have this covered after a bit of tinkering

- VC-81_BOLTER - 12.05.2009

I have repainted this ship model in the past. I did the USS Natoma Bay (CVE-62) for my squadron, VC-81. I can of course change the markings.

F9F Panthers did do testing on board a CVE at the time. Touch and go landings were all they progressed to since it was determined that the landing speeds were too high and insufficient space was available if the last wire was caught and the arrested plane went through the barrier. Any spotted airctaft would have been collided with. The Catapult was workable for the Panther but with no JBD on board the deck would have caught fire.

The idea was so in an emergency a combat damaged F9F could have made an emergency landing on one of the escort carriers off the coast of Korea. They steamed close inshore with Corsairs aboard to provide sir support in a hurry for ground troops. The fleet carriers were farther out with the strike aircraft and were harder to reach from shore in a damaged plane.

I had the photos somewhere of the testing but I can't find them anymore. Sorry...

Very cool Bolter. I did not know that. I'll have to give it a try

- Dixiecapt - 12.05.2009

Bolter any help you could give would be GREAT!

This is for a VMF-323 CAS Campaign, but could be used for other KTO missions.

Check out the original post, I put in the files I already had for CVE-116 and showed where they were messed up, and where I was stuck.

Thanks!

Here ya go, I fixed the Alpha Channel for ya.

http://uploading.com/files/SFS6QGAH/3do.rar.html

When painting ships you have to rename the .tgb file to .tga do your edit and then change it back to .tgb

Enjoy
GunnyMac

PS
Hi Bolter I use to fly with ya in VC-81

- VC-81_BOLTER - 12.05.2009

OKAY I see what happened. You need to set the alpha channel is all. I will take care of it for you. Then you'll be all done. Give me a day though cause I am not at home with photochop.

- Dixiecapt - 13.05.2009

Thanks Bolter, Gunny Mac actually took care of it.

And American has shown interest in possibly making a new Mesh and slot for CVE-116, and CVE-118, the saviors of Pusan!
