LST's - Sikshoota - 12.05.2009

Hello All Smile

One thing I reckon would be an extremely valuable addition to this magic old game.

LANDING SHIP TANK aka LST

Think of the numerous missions where LST's could be used ... Salerno, D-Day, the many Pacific island landings ... the list goes on, too many to mention.

In current missions that I make for our squad, I use the MFP II flak vessel partly obscured by either the Dry Cargo or the Tanker vessels ... they do the job but they just don't really look right in that role

Is there any existing/budding modder amongst our fine community who might be tempted/able/willing to take this project on. I'm a mission builder not a skinner/modder unfortunately or I'd surely give it a go myself!

Anyway, just thought this one really deserves a place for the mission builders amongst us to help make your missions that much better hey.

It is possible to change the shape of the freighters in FC Ship pack2 - cutting out and moving some of the meshes you can produce a pretty good facsimile of an LSL/LST. This can be done (as I did mostly by trial and error) using only notepad to edit the hier.him and photoshop for the skins. I was going to post this idea to see if anyone else would be interested, but there has been some problems with the conflict between Ship pack2 and the static AC mod. I do not use the static AC mod so have a range of repainted and slightly altered cruisers and destroyers to replicate typical RN warships of the time. There are some ship mods in the pipeline and if they are released they will be great, but no LSTs. The other problem I found was that there is an issue with proximity to land and they could not be "beached" as they would have to be to simulate the off-load.

Just food for thought and possibly move this idea forward.

I would very greatfull if someone made the LST for us. My father, who has passed away, was on an LST during WWII in the pacific. I have always wanted one to put in my missions I guess to honor him.

would be cool if you could set the waypoints for one of these...the last one being at a beach...when it reaches that waypoint, it stops, doors open. then you could time it so a few seconds after the doors open, you add a tank with its first waypoint at the LST starting at the time of the last waypoint for the LST....and run them inland. Big Grin

This can be done via the .mis file. All you need is the coordinates of the ending waypoint on the beach to be manually placed in the .mis file for the ship. That will get it up to the beach anyway. You could then place the beginning waypoint for the tank right in front of that point with a delay for however long it takes the ship to beach itself. Allot of work for a bit of eyecandy that will most likely be missed from the cockpit, but doable. The same can be done with the LCVPs.

Eye candy yes but, I think it could also be used in missions for attacking enemy landings so really it could be a focal point as well.

Good idea Sikstoota

This would make a graet addition to the game.

stoking the fire...anyone interested persons capable, willing & able?

...perhaps I'll look into doing this important project myself...but where to start???

Hmmm...searching forums now for the 'How to's' of creating modded stationary/moving objects?
