Possible? Bump mapping in the cockpit? B.M. on plane skin? - JAMF - 13.05.2009
Just wondering if it would be possible to have bump mapping in the cockpit or on the aircraft skin? It would add some more (fake) depth to surfaces, like rivets.

Not supported by the game. I think bump mapping came with DirectX 9 and the corresponding version of OpenGL, which was after Il-2s time.

Not possible ...
You can only make a bump emulation on tga cockpits textures . You can use photoshop filters for this , i try this ...lt have the same visual effect like with bump file

bump mapping works on map textures as standard but the game engine was written to include it. As far as I'm aware, there's no such facility for the 3d models in game. I seem to remember trying something like that last year but I couldn't get any result.

OK. It would have been a nice addition, so I'll keep hoping someone finds a way.
@American: Bump mapping is handled by the graphics card and should have very little (if any) impact on the framerate, as it's an old technique and todays cards have no trouble handling it. I haven't tried the bumpyfication yet so I don't know what effect it had, but landscape rendering has a much bigger impact on fps than cockpit rendering, IMHO.
