LAN Multiplayer Help needed! - CrisMoreno - 14.05.2009
I posted this already in the official forums and already got some good help. Thing is, I want to play Mods with my colleagues here at work. What is the best way to set up a LAN connection with the latest 4.09b Patch and mods installed?
I already tried to give different Ports to the client and host, but this message always shows up:
The communication with the remote host is lost: Timeout 1.
Sometimes he could see me, when he tried to connect, sometimes not. Isn't there a more simple way or tool? Is a dedicated server a solution?
This is the help text from the official forums:
Timeout 1
Are you using mods ?
Try to connect using v408m no mods.
In the conf ini

If you want to use the hyperlobby with both of you behind a router.

;Default is 1 (on)
DetectLocalIP = 1

You should not bother using Hyperlobby if you are all on the LAN behind the router. If you host through HL, then you will have to deal with port forwarding. Also, if using HL, make sure the loopback IP you specify on the client machines points to the host's IP.
With Hyperlobby out of the picture, everybody can join through Multiplay using the private IP of the host, e.g. 192.168.etc.etc. and just use default port :21000 It's not necessary, in this case for everyone to run different port.
If it sometimes works, and sometimes not, it may be because the host has two IP addresses, and the game gets confused about which one to use. If you open a command window on the host machine, and enter ipconfig, does it return only one IP or more?
