Editor For .NTRK tracks - Goblin - 16.05.2009

At the actual state of modding of 1946 here, I wonder if anyone could make a program to have/see .NTRK tracks directly transformed into .wmp or xvid or dvx without passing trough annoying FRAPS program. That would be a great help to everyone for seeing it's performance or to create films without lauching eveytime the game that procedure now requires about 2 minutes (at least in my medium range PC..).

+1 I hate fraps! Its so annoying! Instead of calling it an editor it would be more of a converter. Also a wmv. format would be nice.

This a great idea. Don't know how easy to program or user friendly it might be possible to make it though.

As far as I know the .trk and .ntrks are mere logfiles, containing the waypoints and actions all objects in a track have taken (their course, height, firing, crashing, etc.)
The game engine compiles the tracks from this data into a viewable film.

In my guessing it would be quite an effort to make a converter, because you would first have to understand the way the engine works and then try to extract or rebuild the part of the coding, that compiles the .trk/.ntrk "logs" into viewable movies.

I could be dead wrong here, but I guess, it won't be all that easy, if not impossible.

You are correct... Tracks are not video files... they are playback of the actions that happened in a given recorded track. Te sim plays the actions back as if the mission was beoing flown again IN EXACTLY THE SAME WAY. You would still need something to convert what you are seeing to some kind of video format. I would like to see something thnat would allow control over the sequnece of the inputs... thereby in effect letting them run in reverse... or go from one section to another.

THE best way I have figured out is to use a moving screen capture free program.
these have ajustable recording areas. Play the trk and then record what is being played onscreen, There you have it, a main copy in "whatever" your screen capture outputs. this way you have a clip as long as you like as well as being able to then edit it. You can even then make seemless clips.
hope this helps.
PS. the screen capture box is totaly adjustable and will record what is only within the box and can save to different fornats. Google search for the best of your needs.

Hi,

I think that the most we can do for you is revealed in this thread about YouTube movie making. Sure, the subject is YouTube, but programs and techniques for making a video are there, too.
