Very cool Mustangnf, never seen these, one thing for sure, if I'm the test pilot in one of these, the "Stars and Bars" would be twice as big, thanks for posting...

That's a fun plane. It was captured after it was downed by flak during Operation Bodenplatte. The Americans took it and repaired it. They painted it red to distinguish it from German Fw 109's and intended to fly it into combat with Thunderbolts. It just didn't work out... The markings are rather fun. The tail serial code was not an official one but rather the date of capture, January 1, 1945. The ID letters on the side, OO-L, are not official either but are for the general aircraft code assigned in Belgium, OO, and L for Leo Moon, the intended combat pilot of the red 190.

Interesting pics.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but that 109 looks like it was captured by the British and transferred to US forces afterward. Why else would an RAF flash appear on the fin? Or have I confused this with some sort of foreign marking?

It was quite common I believe, during Operation Torch in North Africa, for USAAF to have the Fin Flash as well.
