B-17: 4engines + How to hit something from 25,000 feet? - reflected - 20.05.2009

I have the B-17 F cockpit mod and the B-17 F visual mod installed, and I'm thoroughly enjoying flying this beauty. I can land it decently now, my only issue is hitting the target. How to use the bombsight? I'm a complete newbie, I just got transferred from a fighter squadron Wink

Also, operating 4 engines seems to be difficult too. When one engine catches fire, I don't know which engine is 1,2,3,4, and how to select just that one to stop, then how to disselect it, or select the other 3, anyway, it's quite messy...

Thanks for your help in advance!

You need to assign keys to 'Select Engine' for each individual engine. Personal preference is Shift+1, Shift+2 for each engine. Then with engine selected you can turn it off or if engine is damaged, you can compenstate by running another engine at high power.

just so you know which engines are which, multi-engine planes are always numbered left to right. that means that the outboard left engine is #1, inboard left is #2, inboard right is #3, and outboard right is #4. this applies to all multi-engine planes in-game, just count from the left!

Hope that helps Smile

You got "Select engine 1,2,3,4,5,6" and "Unselect engine 1,2,3,4,5,6" and "Select all engines" you got them from your controls if you do does keys when your engine are burning you can select one and stop it and then fly with the 3 engines .

And i found something for a beginer how to use the bombsight :

bomsight table is a must have for all bomber pilots.

ya the bombsight table

it's a great tool works great for me. simple to use.
just enter your altitude and IAS airspeed in the table
then enter altitude and TAS airspeed from the table in to your bombsight, set angle(right above in table) in your bombsight
and push the "toggle sight mode" (auto) button (user defined)when target is in your gross hair sight.
and boom right on spot.

Just a anote, it is possible to put out the fire in your engine by diving.

the only problem with this is it tends to re-ignite at the worst possible time Sad

I display TAS in the speedbar, makes life very easy, just set up your approach, enter your tas and height into the computer, press enter, make a corrections by altering the height until the cursor of the bombsight is staying on the target, and hey presto your bombs hit home, just don't forget to open the bombay doors first!

I can quite easily hit the target from 7000m

what's all this left and right stuff.... I thought it was Port and Starboard, outer and inner

If you REALLY want to learn the correct way to bomb from altitude, contact any of the HVY Group and we'll be glad to teach you.

Our normal operating alt is +25k ft.

Btw, engines are numbered 1-4 starting with the Portside outboard (Pilot's left).
So.... Engine 1 is the Far Left, Engine 2 is near left. Engine 3 is near right, Engine 4 is far right.
