The strange wingman (screenshot) - I/JG27_Waggel - 20.05.2009
The 2 B-17 went to France south of Dieppe. In this moment they were in level flight, target 20 km ahead. I flew on their 10 o clock. Looked like I whould be their wingman :-)
I could shoot down the first bomber over France. The crew completely bailed out and went uninjured into prison. I attacked the second bomber over the channel. So this crew had to bail out into water but they could be rescued by the RAF.

Hallo Waggel,
Nice shot. I like the Fw-190 skin. Could you please tell me which skin this is an where to find it?
Thanks,
RB
P.S. What's the story behind the Africa badge on the cowling, though?
- I/JG27_Waggel - 20.05.2009
@ bohr-r
This is my personal skin for the Fw-190A-3 in I/JG27. It has the W.Nr. 011 and the Sonderkennzeichen DF+BF. The original plane was built in 1942 in Kassel and served in the Erg.JGr. West.
The africa badge on the cowlin is the sign of the first groupe / Jagdgeschwader 27. This emblem was painted by Hauptmann Riegel, who came from Africa. This groupe served a long time in africa and Hans Jochen Marseille served in this unit (The "star of africa" with 156 confirmed air victories). On the 1th september 1942 he shot down 17!!!!! opponents in one day.

The (v)I/JG27 was found in 2003 and has many experts with streaks of 50 up to 129 in online wars (streak is the number of air victories without getting killed).
I sometimes fly on LW10/Bob server. This server has a skin download. When you fly there you might have this skin in your netcache. This skin is not official available.

Hello Waggel,
Thanks for the info. This skin looks really nice. Did you make it? Is there perhaps a template for it?
I remember reading a biography of Hans Joachim Marseille a long, long time ago. Didn't he make some daring escape from behind enemy lines at some point? There was a movie, with Hardy Krueger in the lead role, about a German fighter pilot, who tried to escape from captivity. The film was based on the novel Einer Kam Durch, I think. And was that novel not in part based on some of Marseille's experiences?
Anyway, it was quite a while ago that I read these books and I am beginning to slip off topic here.
Thanks again.
Regards,
RB
By the way, if you don't mind me asking, where in the Ruhrgebiet do you live?
- I/JG27_Waggel - 21.05.2009
Ahhh
Hardy kruger played this pilot who served in JG1. Franz von Werra. Jochen was the pilot who loved girls and nightlife :-D
This film was not bad but I like "The flight of the Phoenix" much more. Brilliant.
I live in Recklinghausen. Thats near to the birth place of Adolf Galland.
Most of the template was done by myself. It is round about 3 years old. I began with the template made by Jester and refreshed it with parts from other templates. than I read a lot of 190 books and i saw a lot of photos. The template changed and changed all over the years. Now it has round about 23 groups and over 800 layers :-D
I whould like to release it here but I do not know if other skinners might make problems with their copyrights. I always write the credits into the skin. So there perhaps will be no problem.
I will release it. If something might be against one author he can write it into the download section. but first of all I have to clean this template a little bit up.

I have uploaded the template:

Hallo Waggel,
Recklinghausen, eh? I am an expatriate Dortmunder myself. Your Fw-190 skin looks really nice (I know, I keep saying that). I, for one, would really appreciate if it was available to the rest of the community. If, as you said you would, you acknowledge all the other people whose work went into making this skin, I don't think that there would be a problem with offering it here. I am counting on the collegial and positive spirit and the goodwill of the community on this one.
By the way, this maybe old hat to you, but some time ago I found a picture book about the air war over Europe, with a few photos of Fw-190 As from JG 1 in Dortmund.
Reference: Boiten, Theo and Martin Bowman. Battles with the Luftwaffe: The Bomber Campaign Against Germany 1942-45. New York: Harper Collins, 2001. See pages 36, 55, 86, 87, 99, 116, 117, 118, 122.
One of them shows a mud-spattered Fw-190A-7 of II/JG1 (Werk Nr. 430352), "Schwarze Drei" in Dortmund, January 1944, with the cowling in a distinctive black and white "toothpaste" paint scheme. Someone recently made a skin for this aircraft. I think, I got it at M4T.
Wasn't there a fighter field in Dortmund-Aplerbeck, either near the military barracks (later occupied by the Brits) on the south side of the B1, or near the old horse race track? Isn't that why there still is a "Flughafen Strasse" around there with no modern airport nearby?
Regards,
RB
