New ships request - Saburo Sakai - 27.05.2009
Is anyone working on new ships, i ask because there are many types of ship that could be made for pacific maps, like new ship classes, destroyers, proper US battleships, supply and support ships, mine sweepers etc etc etc?

how about the Yamato?

of copurse, and oilers and any other japanese shipping, now that the game has come so far with its mods, i think it would be nice to get some more pacific stuff in the game to do some realistic re-enactments of real battles

I would like to see the huge u.s tanker 'OHIO' damaged with a destroyer strapped either side limping into Malta in the Med. I think that there is a huge need for more warships and support vessels in nearly all theatres but these cant be easy to make with the limited poly count on each model, i'm currently trying to get to grips with 3ds max 9 with quite a bit of success and ships are one of the things i hope to get into once i've gained a bit more experience and confidence...... who knows one day i might be able to help you out but its gonna take a bit of time yet!!!

I believe Silent Hunter comunity mod can help with this.
LST's -

I agree with this request & use it to re-enforce
THIS ONE.
Amongst other types as mentioned by Saburo, we certainly could make extremely good use in so many diverse missions of all theatres with the LST type.

I've always thought there were far too few types of civilian vessels. There are certainly not enough transports and bulk carriers of all sizes, small and large. When trying to make a halfway believable harbor for instance, there just aren't enough different types of non military ships ... where are the tugboats just to give an example ... or coastal ferries ...

Good! And news CVs too!

New Japanese CV's such as the Taiho, Junyo, Amagi, Katsuragi, Shinano, Ryuho and the likes ;-)
And US ships such as the USS Wasp, CVL's and such, and of course the yorktown class, but all this is just wishful thinking

the only problem with the LST and higgins boats is that the maps do not allow the ships to come anywhere near the shore line

Could you ,when making a mission and using a LST, put a dock out in the water a little for the LST to pull up to or would it have to be a really long dock?

This is true Saburo ... but only when it applies to setting shipping waypoints in coop missions (for those who wonder why, there is some sort of a proximity restriction when placing waypoints for ships near land mass). In DF missions however a 'stationary ships' version of the LST could be positioned close to the shoreline (as the shallow draft design allowed) or otherwise as desired. The LST would make for a valuable game addition as it would give us a static objective target visually identifiable as seperate from the current 'Dry Cargo' ship type. The LST type would therefore best fullfil the many historical beach landing scenarios that could only add to the games existing mission diversity & give our many virtual Pilots something else to 'aim for'.

Bombsaway ... unfortunately the dock idea might be too unrealistic in a coop as it would have to extend too far out from shore (because of the land mass proximity mentioned above) for the waypoint to meet the dock. That said, your idea may well work where the dock was built to represent the long 'Mulberry Harbour' types as used (with varying success ... one was largely destroyed in a storm) at the Normandy landings.

I read that this works for ships too, so you could maybe have landing craft hitting the beaches? : viewtopic.php?t=8432
