Can't save any of my Normandy maps in FMB - Guest - 30.05.2009
Hi gents
I've had a long day messing about with textures in various maps, that's all been going fine, but I've dicovered (and it's been awhile since I last tried) that i can't save any missions with ANY of the Normandy maps - that is, i have about 6 or 7 versions - fly_zo's version, 2 x LAL versions, the GW_ version, and two other versions. Now, some of these could possibly be that there is nothing in the relevant actors, but most of the maps are populated with bridges, towns, etc.
I've had a long day, and i'm about to hit the sack, but i thought i'd just put this out there so long, maybe someone could point me to where i should be looking to find the problem.
I found out the hard way - i'd spent over 2 hours setting up a pretty detailed night-bombing raid mission, only to find after all that, that it wouldn't freakin' save!
Then i thought i'd check my other normandy maps, and sure enough, none of them are able to save missions in FMB.
something's screwed up for sure....any ideas, chaps?
I'll check back tomorrow morning - bedtime for me now

check load.ini's and their actors.static entries .... make sure that all actors.static files are present
( also check game version ... if map uses slovakia objects)

well, i'm on 4.09b1m, so it's not the version. I'll check the ini's and actors tomorrow, thanks zo. 8)

Ive noticed on som maps that if i have made them in standard fmb and then switch to fmb+ i wont be able to save any missions at all and vice versa.
also there could be conflict with certain mods you might have installed lately.
Try to disable the newest you have installed first until you hopefully are able to save then reinable them one by one until you find the one that messes all up.
Time consuming but worked for me!

Ok, feeling a bit brighter now - i managed to find 1 working Normandy map. It's one of LAL'a Normandy maps, that uses an actors: LAL1actors.static, in the LALnormandy1 folder. I took this static, and edited one of the other load.ini's to point to this one, and it loads and saves fine. So, i think i've narrowed it down to the actors.static that is being used by the rest of the Normandy maps.
So, if anyone would be kind enough to either send me their working actors.static, actually ANY of the actors files that are sitting in their Normandy folder - just plain Normandy folder, not the LALnormandy folders, that might help to solve it. Or. at least point me to where i might find a working actors.static for that can be used for the following maps: (extract from all.ini):
Normandy1 Normandy/load2.ini
Normandy2 Normandy/load.ini
Normandy3 Normandy/load1.ini
GW_Normandy_March normandy/GW_norm_load.ini
fly_Z_Normandy_winter normandy/fly_Z_normW_load.ini
The above maps all suffer from the 'can't save' problem....
I've had a good look at all the relevant load.ini's, and they all point to files which seem to be present and correct, at least they are correctly named, but perhaps they are still the wrong files for that map?
I had an issue with corrupt files about a month back, so that is still sitting uncomfortably in my mind...
Then again, if any files were corrupt, the map would surely not even load?
Help please...

Hi Bigboss,
My normal Normandy folder doesn't have a actors.static file in it, just the various load.ini's and some tga files, so it would be reading the default actors.static file from the sfs files - if you have one in there you could try removing it and seeing if you can save.
Cheers

I'll give that a go, thanks, Quelty.
An aside - I don't know about the other map guys, but I've never been able to get the actors tools to work. So, I can't extract, edit and replace actors files. I try using the extract tool, for instance, and it creates the 5 output files, but they are all blank?
I get around this by loading maps without the actors file present. Then I can edit map_T/h, as i like, save and then reload with the actors file back in place....
How many guys have the actors tools working, maybe I could get a pointer? PM me if necessary, as I think it might involve some java discussion? 8)
