New Maps for Africa - Dakar / Madagascar / Mozambique - agracier - 05.06.2009
As promised a map for Dakar is finished and ready for downloading. To add a little something special, I've included 2 other African maps in the download package: a map for the Madagascar campaign of 1942 and another, mainly landscape map, for Portuguese Mozambique.
Here is the download link. Instructions for installing are in a readme.txt file.

Please take note, that a new pack of objects is needed for the Dakar map to work - dlv_Egypt objects.

UPDATE: Dakar Lite version
for members who wish to have a lighter version of Dakar city, the Egypt objects in this city only, have been overwhelmingly been replaced by traditional Il-2 objects. A few still remain, but just a few.
Download the file, unzip and place the files into map directory 'ag_Dakar'.

You will have to add a new line to your all.ini to choose this option. Please add
ag_DakarLite ag_Dakar/loadLite.ini

These maps are not densely populated, except possibly the Dakar area. Hopefully they will provide some scope for members who like the Forgotten Battles and Obscure Places mode of playing.
Dakar witnessed a British/Free French attack on the Vichy controlled colony. Madagascar was the scene of a more successful Allied invasion by British, Rhodesian, South African and Australian forces in which they faced not only Vichy french forces, but apparently also a number of Japanese naval vessels.
The Mozambique map features a little gimmick for the startup map. There is an entry for the standard type of startup map and a second entry for those who wish, for an intro map featuring a Google Maps overlay, this being mainly a question of introducing some color.
Here are some screenshots

Just tried it again with the following link. Works fine for me and I see the file has already been downloaded quite often. But give it a try with either one of these. The last one is the link with file name included.
Clicking on it may not necessarily work, but if you copy and paste the entire link into your browser, it should work. Give them a try.

Thanks again,
Those are in the works, but will take some more time to get finished. They will be a team effort too, with several members working on populating the maps with individual looking cities and towns.
These Africa maps are fun things to do and involve areas that are lightly populated. Spain is going to be a more serious undertaking in a manner of speaking. It was scene to a very intensely fought conflict, and having been one of the major missing map areas for Il-2, anything on Spain should be a concerted effort by several people, each bringing their particular area of expertise and dedication to the job.
It might take a bit longer, but the results will be far better.

Thanks a million times agracier ! I see you finished the Mozambique map. I got sidetracked with other stuff and didn't really get a chance to do anything on the basic version you sent me. Anyway, i'm very glad to see you got round to finishing it.
Will be trying these out ASAP !
Cheers

All French and British members should thank you deeply for Dakar and Madagascar maps M8!
Really you are helping campaign builders to re-create completely forgotten battles. Now that we have Sea Hurricanes, new Royal Navy campaigns can be built, such as Operation Ironclad, on the proper map and with proper planes. When we have the Swordfish, it will be nice also for Dakar...
I also thank you for the Mozambique map...
Now it is time for me to install and try all your 3 maps...
Cheers,
Vincent

I have a bug to report : On the Mozambique map, the airfield at the Northern extremity of the map (sorry, can't remember the name...) is placed on bumpy gound, causing all kind of problems with airfield tiles and making it impossible to land on.
Appart from that, I just love this map. Now I'm looking for a way to justify why the Allies could have needed to invade Mozambique in an alternative history scenario. This map just cries 'fly Gladiators and Hurricanes over me'
Cheers
Nico
