it must be Indicated Color Mode (I hope its that in englisch, in German itss indiziert), and very important: it has to be bmp format. Size 1024x1024
I think thats it

1mb file 1024x1024 bitmap (.bmp) format. 8 bits. If your skin is 3mb then download the Bright FB skin converter. Either search it in google or download it at my site. (www) button

Make sure you save your file as 24 bit and not 32 bit

Check to see if the skin.bmp is 1 mb and not 3 mb,
usually they are 3 mb untill run through "bright",then they are reduced to 1 mb and will then show up in game.Bright also reduces pixallation on skins as well as reducing the size of the file.

Reduce to a 24 bit file instead of 32 bit in GIMP, copy/paste the .bmp file into your "Bright" folder. Open the folder, double click the 'Bright./bat' icon (not the 'Bright.exe) and Bright will work it's magic, leaving you with the proper file attributes for an IL-2 skin.

Here is a link to a template

F4U Template
http://mission4today.com/index.php?name ... ls&id=4900

I just downloaded this template,I then removed the top layer of the readme on the template then saved it as 24 bit,
I then cut and pasted the 24 bit image that is 3 mb into the folder MyBright and then run the bright.bat
once the black screen come up and run and disappeared it reduced the 3 mb 24 bit image to a 1 mb 24 bit image.

It will now show up in the game,I checked this test skin and it showed up in my game NP

You can always import your skin into virtually any graphics editing program - GIMP, Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop and many others no doubt, and use functions in those programs to reduce from 32 to 24 bit color.

In Paint Shop Pro the function is also called 'decrease colors to 256' -

When you decrease colors to 256 colors, there will usually be some extra options to choose from, but these will effect how the colors are rendered into the nearest 24bit equivalent. Experiment a bit with what looks best.

In Paint Shop Pro again, the best options are : 'Optimized median cut / error diffusion / reduce color bleeding'.

If you don't use PSP, then ignore this last set of options.
